Everyone Seems to Have a Nine Month Program!! (G-d's or Bibi's?)

I could not help but read this week's parsha from Shabbat, and then took a look at the three trees out the porch glass door.  We have three of the five tree fruit species mentioned in the parsha.  We have a fig tree with about 500 figs about to become ripe, and the species of fig tree that we have does not get worms as long as the figs do not crack open.  We have a pomegranate tree with about 50 pomegranates on it which will ripen about two weeks before Rosh HaShana this year.  We also have an olive tree which will ripen sometime during Cheshvan, late Cheshvan this coming year 5774.  All the trees have the Din of the 5th year of the Shmittah cycle.  The are obligated in Terumah Gedolah and Terumat Ma'aser (a full 1% or 10% of 10%) to a Kohen.  They are of course obligated in a full ma'aser (10%) to a Levi, and Ma'aser Sheini (10%) of what is left to be eaten in Jerusalem if there were a Temple there.  Next year, the 6th year, is a Ma'aser Ani year (10% to the poor).  Then comes Shmittah when the trees belongs to everyone in our neighborhood.  Actually it belongs to G-d in the 7th year, but everyone in the neighborhood comes to eat from it.  The odd thing about the olive tree in 5775 is that the fruit in Cheshvan 5775 will still be Ma'aser Ani fruit since the olives will basically be full size by Rosh HaShana of the Shmittah year.  So for the olive tree, the crop of Cheshvan 5776 will be Shmittah fruit.  I have lived here for ten years now.  So I am growing accustomed to the routine around here.  And our well used nusach for tithing and terumah (raising) to the Kohen have become a regular staple around here.  Baruch HaShem.

Now I look at the news and I see that there seems to be a battle setting up this week starting tomorrow.  Bibi in his long exhaustive letter to the general public about why it is ok to release over 100 blood thirsty savages from our jails seems to think that the nine months begins either tomorrow or when negotiations begin this coming Tuesday with the invented people. Bibi's Nine Month Program  Take a look for yourself.  Besides all the lame excuses, he is pointed to tell us that negotiations will last nine months.  How quaint.

Danny Danon seems to bitterly disagree.  He thinks that the nine months should end by within the next month when the world gets really angry at us for not committing suicide.  Here is Danny Danon's opinion.
Hopefully, we pray, G-d's Nine Month Program

Danny is now the CEO of the Likud Party, and Michael Kleiner is now the Chief Internal Judge.  My sense is that all Hell, literally, will break loose this week no matter how this vote goes.  Bibi is no Sharon.  Maybe 10 MKs at most will remain with him in Likud/ Beiteinu if he heads down the road of folly, and the entire Likud internal apparatus is arrayed against him too.  He does not have an Omri Sharon controlling the Likud Party operations like his predecessor.  May the brave man win.  That would be Danny, not Mr. Linguine Spine.  He, King Shaul, has one out.  Make releasing Yehonatan Pollard a pre-condition to releasing murderers from Israeli jails.

I should point out for those who have not been keeping track on this blog.  According to the Gemorrah Niddah 38, the length of pregnancy is 271 days because the gematriah of HaRaYON equals 271.  The UN vote for Palestine 138-9 passed on the 15th of Kislev (November 29, 2012).  The 271 days are up either on the 20th or 21st of Elul, an auspicious date that is mentioned in Medrash Sefer Eliyahu in the sidebar of this blog for Mashiach to come.  And his name will be Yinon.

Now over Shabbat, we see that Obamanation's buddies in the Muslim Brotherhood are filling Egyptian streets with their blood. Dozens are dead, and this Civil War in Egypt has just begun. And our PM is cowering like a string of linguine our of fear of this wholly evil man in the White House that just under 70% of American Jews have fallen in love with. We need a lunatic asylum fast for the 70% of American Jews who voted for the sinister servant of the Monkey god from Jakarta, Bibi, and some of former Mossad chief Yuval Diskin's closest friends.

Hi Dov

Here I have a business (Jewish Name Art) based on names, and out of ALL my resources - I was still having problems finding the literal meaning of YINON.

So I called up one of my Israeli friends - they are VERY spiritual Yeminite Jews living here in Chicago - live very close to Hashem, full of kedusha…they have a son named Yinon. They said Yinon means: He will rule. He will be king/Mashiach. He will bring people back from the dead. (literally and as in inspire people to live lives of kedusha). He will bring the resurrection. He shall continue…(they had to call me back after talking to someone who knew english better). She may still have not been able to tell me completely because of her english and my lack of Hebrew. I may have understood incorrectly too.

Also a Hebrew translation site of names said: The verb "yinnon" (Perhaps meaning "SHALL CONTINUE" appears in the Tanahk in reference to the ideal king: "His name shall endure forever, his name shall be continued as long as the sun, and men shall be blessed in him, all nations shall call him bless" Ps 72:17. Later on, "Yinon" became one of the Messiah's epithets.

kol tuv, Devorah

I am collecting my thoughts today. The entire scene of having a cabinet meeting to approve the release of over 100 bloodthirsty savages of innocents, to jumpstart peace talks, requires thought and distance to reflect upon it. The entire scene is macabre and at a level of evil that I never experienced growing up in the Midwest of the United States in the 1960s and 1970s. It is hard to emotionally grasp this level of evil at such close quarters. I am not sure that such a thing has ever occurred in world history. No other nation in history would brown nose other nations in the world with such self-deprecating behavior by releasing 100 bloodthirsty savages from its jails. An emotionally sensitive person could not have spent even a half an hour in that Cabinet meeting.

For Devorah: This is what Medrash Sefer Eliyahu says about the name Yinon: On the twentieth (day) of Ellul, the Messiah will come: his name is Yinnōn. On that same day Gabriel will descend (and) from the ninth to the tenth hour will destroy from the world ninety-two thousand people.

The 20th of Ellul 5773, as I explained before would have been the 19th of Ellul in most other years. Hillel HaSheini did not want Yom Kippur to fall on Motzei Shabbat. So he made this past Kislev only have 29 days. This means that the 21st of Ellul (which should be the 20th of Ellul) this year is exactly 271 days after the UN Vote for Palestine 138-7 which took place on the 15th of Kislev. According to the Talmud Niddah 38, 271 days is the exact length of an average pregnancy. So keep a watch open for both the 20th and the 21st of Ellul this year.

I also am reeling with this. It looks like Bayit Yehudi made a deal...which is even more horrible. A deal? with people's lives? for what? Houses? For whom? What good is a house if the people in it will be murdered?

This is, you are right Dov, a level of evil too hard to see so up close...disguised as helpful? for our good? What's the difference between this and the judenrats of the Shoah?

I think as spiritually sensitive people we need to withdraw from politics and connect to G-d, family, and community for the next month. The raw Evil that we are confronting now will not be defeated by politicking.

Bibi was threatened that last Thursday night after Tisha B'Av that if he did not cave to PA pre-conditions, Obama would push an amendment through the UNSC to Res. 242 that the starting point and end point of negotiations would be the pre-67 borders with agreed land swaps. And if Israel did not comply, Samkel Power would introduce a resolution for a Mammoth Protection Force for Palestine. You and I have been expecting this because we are well versed in End of Days prophesies. Bibi and his gang of secular Ministers simply cowered before the impending great evil. They are not equipped to take on the entire world. So today they committed this macabre act of cannibalism.

Rabbi Yitzhak Kaduri in 2004- "We are now in the fourth year of what could be the seven-year Redemption period, according to the calculation of the Vilna Gaon. In the coming three years, uncertainty about the future will hang over our heads, unless we work and strive that the Mashiach be revealed. The Mashiach is already in Israel.

Whatever people are sure will not happen is liable to happen, and whatever we are certain will happen may disappoint us. But in the end, there will be peace throughout the world. The world is mitmatek mehadinim (or becoming sweet from strict justice). Great tragedies in the world are foreseen, that's the thing of the Jews going to the East. But our enemies will not prevail over us in the Land of Israel, 'fear and trembling will fall upon them,' in the power of Torah."

We shall now begin to ponder the Jewish sages’ commentaries of what they predicted yearly to be the prime events in the Land of Israel and what it will be like during the last seven years before the coming of the Messiah. According to the prophecy of Rebbe Yochanan ben Zaccai of Yavneh as noted in the Talmudic portion called the “Sanhedrin 97b”, we took note that if this is the last Sabbatical Week of Years before the coming of the messiah, when we must look at the details, year by year, and see if the evidence matches with the prophetic understanding, especially through the seven years between Rosh Hashanah 2008 and Rosh Hashanah 2015. Then the following events it appears will occur in the years following those Shofar warnings on Rosh Hashanah each year. Here is a summary of that Talmudic prophecy written about 1,943 years ago by the famed Rabbi Yochanan ben Zaccai of Yavneh. Let us now look at this collection of passages in the Talmud in the Sanhedrin 97a, as they were first written:

Sanhedrin 97a – “Rebi Yochanan said: In the generation that Ben Dovid will come, talmidei chachamim, the “pupil of wisdom” known as the Torah sage or scholar, will decrease, and the eyes of the remainder will protrude from sighing and sorrow; many chastisements and many evil decrees will be renewed; one will not cease before another begins. The rabbis taught: The Shmittah period in which Ben Dovid will come the following verses will be fulfilled:

In the first year, "And I caused it to rain upon one city, and upon another city I caused it not to rain." (Amos 4:7).
In the second year, slight famine will be sent.
In the third year, a great famine from which men, women, and children, pious and deed-doing people will die, and Torah will be forgotten by those who learned her.
In the fourth year, some will be satiated, and others will not be.
In the fifth year, there will be great satiation, with eating, drinking, and joy, and Torah will return to those who learned it.
In the sixth year, voices (speaking of the Mashiach’s imminent arrival) will be heard, and;
In the seventh year, there will be war [Gog u'Magog].
In the year after the seventh, Ben Dovid will come.

Ayelet Shaked of Bayit Yehudi:

Shaked also condemned the popular Palestinian Arab support for convicted murderers:

"One last word, to our peace and freedom seeking cousins,” she continued.

“I see your celebrations in Ramallah, regarding the release of the murderers. I have one thing to tell you: you deserve each other.

"Take them, the murderers of children, the violators of dead bodies, the ones who burn women alive. That is what you look like: a bloodthirsty group that dances in honor of the release of 104 barbarians. That is our partner."

Finishing with a message of defiance, she added:

"But you should know: for every murderer who is freed, dozens of new homes will be built, in our Land of the Bible, in Judea and Samaria. That is how it is, from the dawn of Zionism: we build, they kill. Each side does what it knows best.”

What percentage of the Jews here in EY can see reality the way Ayelet sees it?

Sorry, while our ancient Prophets believed that the alignment of planets and stars often meant something, G-d would regularly change the meaning of events that would take place so that the astrological indicators would often result in completely different events than what had been predicted. I remember an incident where Egyptian astrologers predicted bloody events for ancient Israel in Nisan of 2448. What they could not predict is that the blood that they saw was the blood of Brit Milah (Circumcision) and the Korban Pesach. Since G-d regularly changes the character and direction of predicted astrological events, it is best to rely upon G-d rather than the arrangement of stars and planets for arranging our futures.

Plus Astrology is a metaphysical study, and Astronomy is a hard science. They are not one and the same.

I just wanted to point out that while the Final Solution was not adopted until the Wannsee Conference on the 2nd of Shevat 5702, extermination policies against Jews began with the German invasion of Soviet Republics in late June and early July of 1941. Actual extermination orders against Jews began in Belarus in Tamuz of 5701. Prior to the invasion of Soviet Republics, the main emphasis had been on using Jews for slave labors in various ghettos where the average calorie intake was less than 800 calories per day. Following the 72 year theory of this Final Redemption, we have therefore arrived.

Babi Yar massacre was on the 8th and 9th of Tishrei, 5702. Various methods of extermination were being tried out before this time including the famous gasoline vans where fumes were pumped into sealed compartments.

72 years after the various build ups to efforts at extermination should be a good barometer of what happens now. You see even the Judenrat eventually went to the gas chambers. So expect pure unadulterated confusion now.

The darkest figure of the Shoah besides Hitler himself was Reinhard Heydrich yemach shmo. He was so evil that he did not even survive the war to witness his brainchild, The Final Solution. He was killed by the Czech Resistance in an assassination plot that worked in May/June of 1942. Heydrich was also the brainchild behind Krystalnacht. Until his death most matters of blood and gore against civilians were perpetrated by Heydrich. His hatred for Czechs was only trumped by his hatred of Jews.

Ariela: I too wish that we could be kind and gentle to each other, but because of our cruelty toward each other, we missed out on the path of Geulah under Gog ben Gog Bush. So now it comes because of our collective interminable suffering, something that no act of cruelty and wickedness can erase.

Many of us have given up on G-d who allowed this interminable suffering. They have grown tired of what they perceive as His cruelty are at least His ambivalence. So they now choose to believe in Man and his supposed inherent goodness either in his proletarian purity or in the perceived goodness of his popular opinion. Since the world hates settlers for instance, those who want to popular in the world hate settlers too. Until they see the Hand of G-d directly showing love to them as a unique small minority of Mankind, the ones who might be willing to look at the world differently will not be changing anytime soon. Deep down they think that G-d hates them. So they are ambivalent to what He thinks in the face of what is popular in the world. Most of these Jews are Ashkenazim who survived Xtian Europe over the last 2000 years as shreds of their ancestors. It is worth noting that the word shred etymologically comes from the Hebrew word, Sarid, which means survivor.

7/29/2013 11:07 PM
Blogger Dov Bar-Leib said...

On the other side of the spectrum we have the hatreds between different types of Torah observant Jews in the Ashkenazic world. On one side we have the Litvaks. Since Tach veTat and Shabtai Tzvi, they have developed an entire world view of burying one's pain and maintaining coping strategies for survival and even prosperity. This "bury your pain" worldview works for about 35 to 40% of Jews who have successfully applied this strategy for the last 350 years on themselves. The remaining 60 to 65% rebelled and eventually became Chassidim. They refused to bury their nefesh behamit. So they found ways to purify it, express it, and turned their pain into mystical Joy. Well as it is apparently wont to happen, the group that successfully buried their pain started pelting the group that wore their emotions on their sleeves with stones for over 100 years. There seems like there is nothing like how we deal with intense pain and cope with it so that we either bury it or heal that can creates so much internecine hatred. Seeing the tears of childhood expressed by an adult can bring out the worst in some people. Then the Ba'al Shem Tov made an astonishing prediction. He said that they Mitnagdic Rabbis spent so much energy burying their pain and the pain of those who follow them, that they would delay the Geulah. You see. He understood a basic law of human nature. If you so intently bury your own pain, then you won't be able to feel the pain of others, and you will blow a basic test of common decency related to that point. And this is what happened in 2005. The Ba'al Shem Tov was proven correct. So I believe with perfect faith that G-d will remove us from these Catch 22s to bring the Geulah with Rachamim. As it says in the Navi, He will turn our hearts of stone into hearts of flesh. Now that will be a sight to see when it happens.

Until then don't fall into the trap of the popularity avodah zarah at one extreme and "Burying your pain is for everyone" view on the other extreme. I realize America is like a candy store. It looks good, tastes good, and smells good, but it will rot out your teeth. But for those who want to replace pain with either fun or Chumrot, it is a good place to hide. Neither Fun nor Chumrot can fill up an empty core.

Well CDG: It might lead to Israeli drivers actually yielding to drivers in traffic circles who are already in the circle. Driving should be an experience to think about one's fellow human being. Here it seems that it is all about how can I take advantage of the Friarim (suckers) on the roads, manipulate them like pawns for my own benefit alone, and push in without waiting my turn in line because it is me, me, me that comes before you, you, you. A heart of flesh would go a long way toward reducing traffic accidents, so much so that they may actually start allowing right turns on red here. Can you imagine Israel as it is allowing Israelis to make right turns on red?? We would have carnage.

Being able to allow right on red indeed would be a good start, but others on earth do that already. ;)

When I see this pasuk about a heart of flesh, I imagine that we will not only be as docile and patient as a British person in a queue, but we will be able to go well beyond any current understanding of sensitivity - including that of the highest level of HSP (highly sensitive person). I'm borrowing the book by Elaine Aron from a friend and reading it now - and I'm getting an idea of where the start point is for this discussion.

Apart from Israeli driving habits and pushiness in lines, we Jews (at least the ones I see around me) seem to be the opposite of the world around us. Dr. Aron says that HSPs constitute about 15-20% of humans - and she's from California. I believe Israeli HSPs (the most concentrated population of Jews) comprise more like 80-85%. This could explain a lot, like why it takes us so long to react to things that bother us, why we are so easily traumatized - and why our recovery from all our mountain of troubles will take a miracle for every person. And as for the rest, it seems that's why they can lord it over us so easily - because they don't have as much to get over, and so can move faster.

So where do we go from here into HaShem's "heart of flesh"?

Just a thought.

Yes, CDG, we have a yetzer Hatov implanted in our neshamot to counter the yetzer hara corresponding to our hearts of stone. The yetzer hatov allows us to be highly sensitive people. The more we attach ourselves to Torah, the more we allow ourselves to connect to that sensitivity. Simply doing Chessed because it is commanded forces us to become more sensitive even if our stony heart would insist that we should think only about ourselves.

Shilo: You choose. Do you think that in his arrogance, the Ba'al Kerry gets to choose when Palestine is born nine months after the 22nd of Av? Or did the Ba'al Kerry miss the moment of conception on the 15th of Kislev with the UN vote (138-9) for Palestine, and the 22nd of Av simply began the ninth month at the end of which the baby to be born on the 20th or the 21st of Ellul is Yinon? So including both the Talmud Yerushalmi and the famous verses in Zecharia about the name Tzemach, we have three of the five names of Mashiach mentioned in the Talmud and in the Prophets. We have Menachem and Tzemach both with gematriah 138 at the conception, and we have Yinon at the birth on the 20/21 of Ellul. Missing from this are you Shiloh (from the Torah Gen. 49:10) (another name mentioned in Sanhedrin 98) and Chaninah (Amnesty). Do you want to throw your hat into the ring? Both the names Yinon and Chaninah have a double Nun. I remember seeing something important about that before. I will get back to you on this.

I should mention in passing that the name Shiloh is likely a reference to Mashiach ben Yosef since Shiloh is Shai lo (Gift to him). The him is Mashiach ben David, but it is spelled with a Hey. The gift to him should have been Binyamin since Yehudah brought Binyamin as a gift to Yosef in Egypt, HaShem at the end of days gives Binyamin as a "Gift to him" So we are speaking about the name Yehonatan (HaShem gives). We will have to see how all this plays out, but Netanyahu, the reverse of Yehonatan, has been a massive failure as he has been throughout his political career. Because his failure is our failure collectively to have a basic faith and to be terrified in the face of great evil, we will have to see how this plays out.

I should point out that the name Chaninah appears in Yirmiyahu 16, but not in a positive light, but it immediately precedes a verse dealing with how great the Final Redemption will be.

The terror that Netanyahu feels is precisely what should be a consolation (Menacham) for him, our worldwide isolation (138-9). Yet, we are such fools and taught from our youth to pursue popularity with a passion. And if we are not popular, then we are told by others to have at least one non-Jewish powerful friend in the world. We have been deluded and mis-informed. The Power of One is the Creator of the Universe.

Abbas wants 'not a single Israeli' in Palestine

It seems obvious that what is unfolding in front of our eyes is indeed very much consistent with the prophecy of the Propeth Zechariah. But is it really conceivable that the nations of the world could sell out a democratic and independent state previously recognized by the same nations? – The only Jewish homeland in world – the State of Israel? Has such a thing ever happened in modern times? The answer is YES, in the years preceding the Second World War, to prewar Czechoslovakia.

At the center of prewar Europe was Czechoslovakia. Before annexing Austria, Hitler had called for the "return to the Reich" of the ten million Germans beyond its boarders. In swallowing Austria, Nazi Germany had taken in approximately three quarters of the "Germans" with the remaining in Czechoslovakia and Poland. The major European powers, England and France quickly surrendered to Hitler's demands, and the Munich Pact was signed Sept. 30, 1938. It permitted immediate occupation by Germany of the Sudetenland. When The British Prime Minister, Neville Chamberlain, arrived in London, he announced that he had secured "peace in our time." Abandoned by its allies, Czechoslovakia gave in to the terms. Chamberlain betrayed Czechoslovakia in 1938. And, had Hitler agreed to refrain from using force in 1939, Chamberlain was then prepared to offer Germany large parts of Poland’s territory.

As tension now grows over Iran’s race to develop nuclear weapons, President Obama seeks rapprochement with the Muslim world, including Iran. Are there any similarities between Obama and Chamberlain? In his Cairo speech Obama placed a special focus on Palestinian suffering that disturbingly recalls Chamberlain’s exaggerated concern for Czechoslovakia’s three million Sudeten Germans. Chamberlain’s myopia rapidly led to the destruction of interwar Czechoslovakia, then the only democracy in Eastern Europe. Is Obama similarly searching for a general settlement that betrays the vital of the State of Israel, the only democracy in the Middle East, to the advantage of 21st century Hitlers as portrayed by Iran’s leaders with the help of proxies, including Syria, Hezbollah and Hamas? If so, this would suggests that Obama believes that a weaker Israel now suits the interests of the USA.

The change in the U.S. policy towards the State of Israel comes in a time when wave of anti-Semitism once again raises its ugly face and threatens the Jewish people, from the Dubai tennis games to the anti-Israel Durban conference, to the boycotts of Israeli goods in Turkey, to the vandals in Venezuela, to European Jew-battering, to accusations of Jewish responsibility for the global financial crisis. The Western champions of "peace" have opted to sell Israel and the Jews out to the jihadists because as anti-Semites, Western "anti-Zionists" fear Jewish power and therefore want us to be weak. So it is that for the past 40 years, European governments and the US State Department have bankrolled several anti-Zionist groups in Israel. So it is that they have blamed Israel for Palestinian terrorism. And even if Israel would succumb to all their demands for territorial withdrawals, they always manage to demand still more.

Let us now return to the prophecy of the Prophet Zechariah. The way things are unfolding, with the West's collusion with the Arabs and Iran in their war against the Jews it seems very feasible indeed that there will be a formation of a Christian Islamic coalition whose purpose is the destruction/dissolution of the State of Israel as we know it today as prophesied by the Prophet, Chas VeShalom. And this angers G'd Almighty!

Take a look at what is happening in the world! Has Earth gone mad? Did the volcano that erupted ground aircrafts and stop flights? Thousands of travelers could not move, grounded. Goods were grounded, Trading - stuck. The American economy is falling and will continue to do so. Europe's economy is also falling and will continue to fall. There are huge financial losses. The role of the Chinese is to overthrow the Americans and Europe without even knowing it. And at the end - also the Chinese will fall. And all this for nothing?! Are all these events only random and passing events?! Or are they G'd Almighty's handiwork - a G'dly force?! The Lord Almighty works through nature, influences and acts within the natural. If reflecting more deeply, every person will come to the understanding that what is going on the handiworks of the Lord Almighty. There are still many places in the world with volcanoes, floods, mud, raging storms, tension and entanglements between countries and within countries. The Lord Almighty makes trouble between them. Isn't it clear that what is happening is the handiwork of G'd? What else could it be? G'd Almighty is angry!

So what are we the Jews supposed to do?

How the prophecy of the Prophet Zechariah finally will play out depends very much on the actions of the Jewish people. We are called Ivriim (Hebrews), because we inherited that legacy of Abraham. Empires have risen and fallen, and the laws of nature would have had the same happen to us, but we're still here. We remained and will continue to remain if we stay apart and unique in our faith and customs. When we maintain our national language and distinct identity we persevere in a way that no other people have or could have.

As long as we have an ally, even just one, most people say because of our alliance we won and overcame. But for the Jewish people to rely on the help an ally is a sign of lack of faith and a delusion. So if everyone hates us in any case – what do we achieve by trying to avoid annoying them? No nation is a real friend of Israel says G'd. "Behold! It is a nation that will dwell alone in solitude and not be reckoned among the nations". (Bamidbar/Numbers, 23:9). The search for friendship among the nations of the world is futile – and disappointing to those who put their hopes to it. We need to accept upon ourselves solitude, i.e. to be alone, to be different – And if we don't, then G'd Almighty will bring the solitude it upon us – and it has obviously already started!

In effect, G'd is saying: "Either you will remember that you're Jews on your own, or I'll have to remind you. Don't hast to join the nations of the world and don't yearn and chase to adapt to their culture and habits". Last week we read the Torah parsha/section Bechukosai. Here G'd gives us "the rules of the game". G'd will shower the Jewish people with unlimited blessings if we keep our part of the convent, and if not, He will remind us. "If you will follow My decrees and observe My commandments and perform them;..." And if we walk the path of G' then "I will place My Sactuary among you; and My Spirit will not reject you." And then there will be the fulfillment of "I will walk among you. I will b G'd unto you and you will be a people unto Me…I broke the staves of your yoke and led you erect." In other words, if the Jewish people will walk His path, G' will take care of all our needs. But if we don't, "But if you will not listen to Me and will not perform all of these commandments…" Vayikra/Leviticus 26:3-33

The paradigm for the rule of Divine Providence is to be found in the beginning of the Book of Shemot/Exodus, when the Torah describes the prosperous descendants of Jacob's family in Egypt: "...And the Children of Israel were fruitful and swarmed [vayishratzu], multiplied and waxed exceedingly mighty, and the land was filled with them" (Shemot/Exodus 1:7). The Midrash picks up on the verb "to swarm" which includes the root noun sheretz, an impure reptile. The Torah is apparently suggesting that the Hebrews were saturating the cultural landscape of Egypt, swarming into the bars and brothels. And then what happens? "There arose a new king over Egypt" (Shemot/Exodus 1:8). The party is over. Edicts begin. Jews are forbidden to socialize with Egyptians. Death is in the air. Male children are drowned in the Nile, or conscripted at the age of eight. When Jews forget they are Jews, a gentile will remind them. His name may be Pharaoh, or Haman, or Stalin, or Hitler, or Ahmadinejad.

We read in the Torah parsha/section of Vayikra/Leviticus 26:3-16. G'd gives us "the rules of the game". He will shower the Jewish people with blessings if we keep our part of the convent, and if not, we will be reminded:

Hence, let us live up to our name and heritage – even if means that being an Ivri we will find ourselves on the other side of "the river", the other side of the public opinion. Whether consciously or unconsciously, that is what the world expects from the chosen people. And even more so, that is what G'd Almighty expects from his chosen people. And if we do this, G'd will take care to eradicate and destroy all our enemies, that is not our concern! G'd has infinite ways to do this. With our cooperation, through us and through "messirat nefesh" (“giving one’s life", “devotion” or “giving one’s all"), and even without our help as "G'd shall make war for you, and you shall remain silent." Shemos/Exodus 14:14

As we saw in the buildup to the conception, a lot of things can happen in one month. 14th of Cheshvan- Hurricane Sandy
the following week- Obama re-elected
29th of Cheshvan- the beginning of the 8 day Gaza War 7th of Cheshvan- bus blows up on Shaul HaMelekh St in Tel Aviv on the 8th day of that war which was quickly followed by King Shaul, I mean Bibi's, Peace offering and surrender. The Likud primary four days later with an additional day added probably because the powers at be did not like the results of the first day of the Primary. 15th of Kislev- UN vote for Palestine. If that much can happen in the month leading up to conception, how much will occur in the month leading up to the birth?

III. Ikvot Meshicha:
The Time Immediately Before Mashiach

The time appointed by G-d for the Messianic redemption is a closely guarded secret.1 Nonetheless, we are offered many hints to recognize its proximity: when certain conditions come about, await the imminent coming of Mashiach.

Most of these conditions are quite disturbing, clearly displaying a situation of the very “bottom of the pit.”2 One major source describes the world-condition in those days as follows: increase in insolence and impudence; oppressing inflation; unbridled irresponsibility on the part of authorities; centers of learning will turn into bawdy houses; wars; many destitutes begging, with none to pity them; wisdom shall be putrid; the pious shall be despised; truth will be abandoned; the young will insult the old; family-breakup with mutual recriminations; impudent leadership.3

Other sources add: lack of scholars; succession of troubles and evil decrees; famines; mutual denunciations; epidemics of terrible diseases; poverty and scarcity; cursing and blaspheming; international confrontations nations provoking and fighting each other.4 In short, it will be a time of suffering that will make it look as if G-d were asleep. These are the birthpangs of Mashiach, bearable only in anticipation of the bliss that follows them.

“When you see a generation ever dwindling, hope for him… when you see a generation overwhelmed by many troubles as by a river, await him.”5 “When you see nations fighting each other, look toward the feet of Mashiach.”6

Little wonder that some sages expressed apprehensions about those days in terms of, “Let [Mashiach] come, but let me not see him.”7 The prevailing attitude, however, is to await his coming in spite of all, even if thereafter we shall merit no more than sitting “in the shadow of his donkey’s dung!”8

The troubles and agony of chevlei Mashiach (birthpangs of Mashiach), however, are not unavoidable:

“What is man to do to be spared the pangs of Mashiach? Let him engage in Torah and acts of loving-kindness!”9

Moreover, there are also good and happy signs indicating the imminent coming of Mashiach: a good measure of prosperity;10 a renewal of Torah-study;11 and opening of the “gates of wisdom above and the wellsprings of wisdom below,”12 evidenced also by scientific and technological discoveries and advances; a manifestation and propagation of the mystical teachings of the Torah;13 and also “In the time that Mashiach will awaken, many signs and miracles will occur in the world.”14

This is not to say that many dispensiationalists will not betray us if the eschatology does not progress in the way that they theorize. Most of the EU nations who are "betraying us" either have always hated us or are like the Dutch who have ceased to be a Xtian country.

We are entering the final stages of history…. a period in time called “Ikvesa D’Meshicha” – “Footsteps of the Messiah….Our Torah foretells four exiles through which our people would suffer: Egypt, Babylonia – Persian-Mede Empires, Greece and Rome – the exile in which we presently find ourselves, for it was the Romans who exiled us when they destroyed the Second Temple. One need not have great powers of discernment to recognize the painful veracity of these predictions. Consider only the suicide bombers, the decapitations, the hijackings, the missiles, the rockets, and the constant, senseless brutal acts of terror. But say unto them, ‘My children, do not fear. The time of your redemption has come... And this last redemption shall be different from the first that was followed by further bondage and pain. After this last redemption, you shall not experience any further pain or subjugation” [Yalkut Shimoni, Isaiah 59]
But today, the impossible has become possible and events are unfolding so rapidly that we have difficulty absorbing their impact. So how are we to understand it all. How long will the labor of the birth pangs last? It’s anyone’s guess, but one thing is certain – please G'd, the birth is sure to take place. In the interim however, we may very well ask, “Is it possible to ease the suffering? Is it possible to protect ourselves from these painful contractions. Here is some really good Torah discussion on the Chabad website about double Nuns, in particular in the name Yinon where there is one bent Nun and one final Nun. Nun is a fish in Aramaic, but it is an actual species of fish in the Sea of Galilee. So two Nuns are two fishes and would normally correspond with the month of Adar through the Midah of Chessed. Yet, the midah of Rachamim is strong in Elul. Chessed is the lovingkindness that we get before we have sinned. Rachamim is the lovingkindness that we get after we have sinned. Rachamim is therefore usually tempered with Din, judgement. The Maharal says that teshuvah b'Yirah (repentance out of reverence or awe) is represented by the bent Nun, and teshuvah b'Ahavah (repentance out of love) is represented by the straight final Nun. Nun usually represents Mashiach because its gematriah is 50 which is the Qedusha that comes from Malkhut that is in Malkhut, the anointment of ben David at the 49th level of purity. David HaMelekh was born and died on Shavuot.

The Xtians that are most pro-Israel are those who believe that the Age of the Gentiles will come to an end (according to some after their rapture and according to others there will be no such thing). Of course about 144,000 of us are supposed to be the new Church started by Jews persecuted by the anti-X. This is the belief of dispensationalists. When this does not happen, many of these Xtians will either lose faith or will join the ranks of the rabid anti-Semites. Yet, many Xtians have placed their common decency ahead of their eschatology will survive the blow, that the man-god who died 2000 years ago has no place in their personal salvation for their World to Come. If they have the four attributes of a righteous gentile, they will weather the blow to their peculiar belief system just fine. I have written about these four attributes frequently on this blog. The others will not fare so well. Can you imagine 2 billion people in the world discovering all at once that Yoshke is neither a god nor a Messiah nor a perfect korban to secure their place in Olam haBa? It will be pure chaos. Yet, a certain percentage will fare well during the transition.

Shiloh: because Mashiach ben David's presence in the world has to be felt for a period of time before the arrogant men are humbled so that they are humbled. Only then does he actually come forward in the 8th year, the year after the Shmittah year. We have to be cured of the idea that we did it with our own strength first. The Final Geulah comes about with miracles over which we really do not have control. Our ability to "save ourselves" is reduced to nil. G-d saves us, and after that ben David comes forward.

It is under the shelter of the wings of this Crab, that Houston Stewart Chamberlain wrote his classic Nazi bible, Foundations of the 19th Century. How many pounds of flesh were sent to the crematoria when the Bank of England demanded interest on its ill-gotten gain?

Actually though, the Dutch were better when they were believing Xtians. The Dutch Reformed Church (Calvinists) since 1600 was the most philo-Semitic church in Europe. The relations between Sephardic Jews and the Dutch were unusually warm and respectful. Even the Spinoza incident where he was put into Cherem was properly argued on their part.

Most of the rest of Europe were bastards. The Dutch ceased to be Xtians after the Holocaust, and now they are worse than everyone else or at least just as bad. During the Shoah there were of course notable exceptions: the Danes and the King of Rumania, but they were exceptions not the rule.

The Dutch had excellent records of the religions of various people in various towns because a portion of taxes collected went to the church or synagogue vis a vis the percentage of Jews or Catholics in a particular town. This made the Nazis work of extermination easy in Holland since the records were well kept. Dutch police seem to have cooperated with the Nazis as effective enforcers, but the Dutch populous was three times more likely to hide and shelter Jews than any other national group under Nazi domination. The Calvinists have now almost completely disappeared in Holland. So now they are no different than the rest of Europe.

Where do the Czechs (or former Czechoslovakia) stand in comparison?

In the case of pre-WW2 Czechoslovakia, the former is the template for how the world intends to stab Israel in the back, then there is the fact that the modern day Czech Republic was one of the 9 nations to have voted against recognising "Palestine" though I'm sure the land there even prior to WW2 was drenched in Jewish blood.

One of my thoughts about this Cabinet vote on Sunday is that unlike other unilateral concessions in Israel's history, this vote delegitimized Israel's very reason for existing so that there would be no more Shoahs and pogroms against Jews where the murderers murdered with impunity. Well, the Cabinet voted to give 104 murderers impunity. The cost of taking an innocent/ defenseless human life should at least be the loss of freedom for the rest of someone's life. Of course it should be the death penalty, but Israelis have considered themselves "enlightened" by not putting the average murderer to death. But now even the enlightened stance has been thrown out the window as the Arabs celebrate with bloodlust the release of their murderers. The average Israeli who has not yet lost his soul to popularity and other gods has got to be recoiling from this. This Vote might lead to more teshuvah than the work of dozens of Chabad shalichim combined.

Yes, it is the one thing keeping Naftali Bennett and Ayelet Shaked from bolting this week. But I am sure that there is a very limited time frame to see action on the part of Mr. Linguine Spine.

One other thing missing so far this week is the "after the Cabinet Vote" poll which might come out tomorrow or Friday according to Jeremy of Jeremy Knesset Insider. A political shift toward Bayit Yehudi would reflect a form of teshuvah against the Avodah Zarah of popularity which the Witch of Eindor, Livni, is the Chief propenent of here. If Israelis rebel against the whole idea of releasing bloody thugs into the Arab Street in order for the world to love us, then there will be massive teshuvah away from the principle avodah zarahs of the Erev Rav. The unintended consequence of Sunday's Vote in favor of the Erev Rav will likely be large scale teshuvah against the Erev Rav. The Erev Rav seems to be clueless about a basic spiritual dimension that exists here, the survival instinct. And Israelis can see the blood on the hands of the murderers. Sometimes Israelis get lost with 2 +2=4 when the Erev Rav media says it equals 5, but they have 1+1=2 down pat.

CDG, Yerushalayim:

To Meir M.

Even if confirmed, 5,000 units are a drop in the bucket for what we need. We can't get a real concession from anyone concerning real housing needs. Better we should have just gone ahead and done it.

Housing prices rise and Jews wanting to buy property here are paying far more than they used to.

I have an idea: The construction industry should go on strike! "IF WE CAN'T BUILD IN YEHUDA AND THE SHOMRON, AND SINCE THE GOVERNMENT GAVE UP GAZA, WE'RE NOT GOING TO BUILD WITHIN THE GREEN LINE EITHER. WE ARE LOSING TONS OF MONEY BECAUSE WE ARE NOT ALLOWED TO BUILD ENOUGH HOUSING EACH YEAR FOR THE NATION'S NEEDS AND - LET'S FACE IT - THE BIG CITIES ARE TOO CROWDED."

But would they?

And here is the sickest human being on the planet right now basking in the glow of her popularity. Now we now must fervently pray that these next four weeks the wicked will stand proudly in line basking in the glow of the popularity god before they go to Hell. Amen.

Tzippi Livni's power comes from one source and one source alone. Almost all non-Torah observant Jews are enthralled by glamour and popularity. It is pretty simple. Livni might not be glamorous, but she is popular amongst the American Left, very popular. This recent Cabinet Vote may have finally been the slap in the face that the popularity enthralled Israeli public needed to wake up from their fantasy world stupor. We will soon know. Meir: I believe that there is only one comment of yours that I have not published: the one about the Israeli exporters because it was several months old already. But they are probably just as upset today as they were back in April. Yet, the BOI has fewer weapons now to fight the dollar's slide because Israeli Prime Interest rate is already down to 1.25%. The BOI can lower it once more to 1%, but interest rate lowering is reaching the end of its rope.

Plus, America is "ecstatic" today because of a 1.7% annual GDP growth rate in Q1. Years ago that would have been considered horrible. 2% growth was at one time needed to maintain the existing economic robustness, taking into acct. population growth and inflation. Yes, these GDP growth rates are NOT adjusted for real inflation. But welcome to the New Normal. Plus as interest rates grow in the US, first time mortgage applications are plummeting again. So the Housing boom had a very short fuse, and the boom is now a bust. The growth in the money supply will continue to cover much of this over for a while, but economics is no longer a science in the new normal. So it is impossible to predict when the jig is up.

Says Rabbi Nir ben Artzi this week (Re'eh)

The government of Israel is beginning to lose direction. They don't appreciate themselves, they don't appreciate the State of Israel or the Jews, they fear the United States. They don't know that it's HaKadosh Baruch Hu who controls this, not the United States and not Russia. Russia tricks and makes fun of the United States.

The United States wants peace with the Palestinians for their own private interest in order for all the Arab countries to be under the United States and the commerce will be with the United States (weapons and ammunition) and will not share it with the Russians. The United States wants peace supposedly for the good of the people of Israel - that's not correct, it's all "interest!"

It's forbidden to release prisoners who murdered Jews. Every prisoner that they will release will be the head of a new group to take revenge on the Jews, to sabotage and to destroy within the State of Israel - they are vindictive. The goal of Hamas, Gaza and the Palestinians in releasing prisoners is to take parts from the Land of Israel and to destroy the State of Israel. This is not real peace, it's peace to destroy the State of Israel.

Ministers in Knesset have to be aware and not make errors and mistakes. Instead, expand and enlarge the Holy Land of Israel. Stop enlarging Tel Aviv and her surroundings, you need to distribute the Jews in the Negev, in Shomron, in Binyamin, in the North and in the Golan Heights. This will be your blessing and you will be blessed from the mouth above. The Israeli government should not say that no one woke her up. Gush Katif was lesson enough! Among the nations, with the food comes the appetite.

In all the places where Jews have settled: in the Shomron, in Gush Katif, in Binyamin and Ramat HaGolan, no Arab lived, there was no trace of a person! In these places it was barren and empty until the Jews captured and revived them and built glorious settlements. Everything there was mountains and rock, the nations themselves hated these lands.

A large part of the Arabs who live in Eretz Yisrael are stirring up and inciting all the Arabs around us, instigating them and working collaboratively with them, where to strike Am Yisrael.

There are four conditions that have never existed before which require Geulah even if we don't necessarily deserve it on our own merits.

1. The entire world with no exceptions is on the verge of falling below the 49th level of impurity together.

a) The Western world as a unit is granting marriage contracts to homosexuals

b) The Islamic world is falling to a level where eating the body parts of one's enemy is at least being excused by the world's Islamicists. In both instances the level of spiritual decay is reaching a global state of the 49th level of impurity.

The decay began in the Summer of Love when Israel won the 6 Day War in 5727. And the end of the 49 year descent will be by the end of 5775 or the Spring of 5776

2. The wealth extinction that occurred at the end of the last two Shmittah cycles (5761 and 5768) is headed for a wealth extinction of wealth extinctions collapse by the end of 5775.

3. Since this is the last Shmittah cycle before the above occurs, according to the Gemorrah, some time in 5774, the spiritual level of Klal Yisrael will reach a point of Prophesy that is mentioned for the 6th year of this last cycle.

4. The Holocaust was the 7th full Churban in a 1900 history where we were "chased in 7 different directions". The last Churban was at Alot HaShachar. The events of establishing the Final Soln. as the implemented policy of Nazi Germany was established by the 2nd of Shevat 5702. Moving from a position of working Jews to death in slave labor and putting Jews in ghettos to the Final Soln took place over several months. In the invasion of Belarus in June of 5701 began the process of Jews simply being murdered without being placed in ghettos or in slave labor camps.

All these things are coming to together over the next two years in a crescendo effect where we are redeemed because this it the very end of civilization and we Jews have reached the end of our collective rope. So a redeemer will come to Tzion not based on great merit except for our collective suffering. So there are 6 million Jews here right now.

Blogger Dov Bar-Leib said...

If you can come up with a collective merit besides our collective suffering, please let me know. As individuals many of us shine really bright. As a group what we all have in common is our suffering. There is one merit for some of us here: It is our desire to be in Eretz Yisrael. At for those of us who are here or who desire to be here, that is a merit for many or even most of us. I leave the how and the what in G-d's Hands.

Or as Rav Ezriel Tauber puts it: at the end of history when all the Chomer of world history has been purified or has been used for its full measure of goodness leaving behind the dung of a jackass (a chamur), guess who comes riding into town on a Chamur?

8/04/2013 4:48 PM
Blogger Dov Bar-Leib said...

The Town in the previous comment is Yerushalayim as in a Redeemer will come to Tzion. We say it every morning. He comes on a jackass because Mashiach will have mastered all the Chomer throughout history, the physical stuff of Creation which was used for mitzvot. At the end of history, there is not much purity left to squeeze out of the Chomer that is left. After all the pure essence of the Chomer is squeezed out, what remains behind until Mashiach comes riding on a jackass is the dung. This is what makes the times that we are in barely bearable in a spiritual sense.

One example for today's circus is going to the bank in downtown Jerusalem, treated so well by such an incredibly wonderful women, then to get on the bus to such incredibly rude people who won't keep their nasty feet off the chairs so that people can sit down and not let a pregnant woman sit. Such good and such evil and we wonder.

As decent as we are, there are the opposite which have a very strong presense in the Land. We as a people must be a light, but they need to be taught how to be such and it's not being done enmass in order to reduce the decree.

Another Dvar Torah from Rav Ezriel Tauber. There are 3 great generations in the history of the world:

1. The generation of the Flood where everyone was wicked except for Noah and his family

2. The generation of the Exodus and the Giving of the Torah where all Klal Yisrael that survived the Plague of Darkness was brought one more time to a Gan Eden existence until the Sin of the Golden Calf. In that generation those who were brought out were mostly not tzaddikim, but most of history was in front of them so that various gilgulim of those who stood at Sinai could rectify their faults in future lifetimes.

3. Our generation: the generation of the Final Redemption. There are no "future gilgulim". So whatever faults that we had from previous lifetimes must be rectified now. In this generation there will be no fence sitters. There are only those who are made righteous through deeds and suffering and the wicked who get all their reward in this world. Therefore, the Bainonim either become righteous through deed and suffering or they slip into total wickedness. THIS APPLIES TO BOTH JEW and GENTILE even if the deeds or suffering required for a Jew are greater than for a gentile because of our status as a nation of priests.

What is the consensus on this?
Yemen is the source of more virulent A-Q threats, and why the US droned them. But how do they fit into the US/Russia axis?

Obviously, manufactured beef will not be kosher.

Also the molad was at 10:02 pm last night. Every two months the molad progressives approximately or slightly less than 1 1/2 hours during the day of the molad. For instance the molad for Tamuz was at 8:33pm Standard Time, and the molad for Elul was last night at 10:02pm Standard Time. And the molad for Cheshvan 5774 will be on Oct. 4th at 11:30pm, and the molad for Tevet will be on Dec. 3rd at 12:58am. Notice how it progesses an hour and a half every two months. Also it appears that the actual time for the molad last night was really 11:02pm because the chart does NOT take into account adding an hour for daylight savings time. The correction so that in 5774, the moladim will fall before Rosh Chodesh for months that have 30 days and on the 1st day of Rosh Chodesh for months that have 29 days will be made on the 30th of Cheshvan (R.H. Kislev) 5774 because Rosh Chodesh Cheshvan, Kislev, and Tevet will all have 30 days.

The Vilna Ga'on cryptically notes that in Adar emissaries from the Sanhedrin are sent out across Eretz Yisael to 1. remind everyone about the mitzvah of Machzit haShekel that should be fulfilled sometime during the month of Adar 2. to be careful of kilayim, not planting two species of the same item right next to each other or grafting the fruit of one tree on to another similar tree which is a different species or mating two species that produce not fertile offspring. These are forbidden mixtures. Jews are not allowed to breed mules or to graft a peach tree with a plum tree to produce a nectarine. I have also learned that non-Jews who actually ask the question are also required not to graft one species with another because of verses about the 3rd day of Creation in Ma'aseh beReishit. Yet, a Jew is allowed to purchase fruit from trees that had previously been grafted by non-Jews who had no idea that they were doing anything wrong. continued...

Since a non-Jew is ultimately only obligated in Noachide Laws which can be derived from studying nature and positing the existence of Nature's G-d, they have this loophole of if they don't ask, they do not have to be warned in the mitzvah of kilayim in most circumstances. Yet, the Vilna Gaon makes a striking claim that Western Civilization will ultimately be destroyed for not observing the mitzvah of kilayim. You see there is one area where even the Noachide should know what is not permissible by studying nature that the human being is holier than an animal, and that therefore nothing should ever be done to mix the human genome pool with the animal genome. Creating an "Island of Dr. Moreau" would therefore be totally forbidden. Yet, with stem cell research progressing as far as it has progressed it is possible today to take human stem cells, splice their genes, and then to mix them with animal cells to produce or to farm different products including edible products. This is the horror show which will lead to the total destruction of Western Civilization according to the Gaon of Vilna. It is worth noting that it is precisely these type of experiments which were first tried out by the Nazis.

Reb dov,
I hate to disagree with you but...
A cell culture taken from a properly schected animal and grown will forever be kosher and basari.
We learn that even a baby cow quickly c-sectioned from its mother who lives is patur from ever min hachai and its milk would even be basari and mutar with meat if it were not for the takana of the rabanim.
Since Arabs consider kosher meat halal as the name of G-d was said over the slaughter it would be ideal and cheap if it could be made with palatable flavor, cheaper, better, and more mehudar kosher than turkeys.
I think there is little to no room to argue against an improperly taken culture from a live animal will forever be ever min hachai and issur even to a Noahide.
As for kaylim there are defined mitzvot trying to hack gene editing into calling it kaylim is a stretch, the Eibeshter gives us the chochma to finally understand the gadlos and to do the same type of editing that has happened randomly through the milenia with viruses transposing animal and plant DNA around the world of life. If we can make a better world with the tools Hashem gives us why not?
When the first pig with kosher simanim is born, grown, and schected for a nice kosher BBQ is one of the simanim of the geula and a reason to rejoice.

Thank you for the detailed explanation. Yes, I can see how using cow genes and stem cells from properly shechted cows would be kosher. I am not sure that we have reached that point.

The greater concern is the mixing of HUMAN genes with animal and plant genes to make new hybrids, new types of animals with HUMAN genes. Not only would such a thing not be kosher, it is kilayim of the worst order. It is utterly macabre and ghastly. Even non-Jews would not be able to do that. Yet, with present bio-technology, this is now feasible.

You mistakenly wrote Kaylim as in vessels. I was speaking about kilayim as in forbidden mixtures.

An H.G. Wells novel from the 1890s called "the Island of Dr. Moreau" spoke about experimenting on humans by giving them various animal characteristics. Mengele, yemach shmo, liked the idea so much that he implemented some of this novel's ideas on Klal Yisrael. So now with gene splicing and stem cell research, one can be sure that there will be some wise, moral incompetents who will try to give us the pain-free version totally erasing the distinction between Man and animal.

Yes I am terrible spelling transliteration, I see raeding it the easy confusion. I prefer the kosher kelime key-lime in seltzer when there is a bar at the simcha.
For all of time we have been spreading snips of human DNA with animals and plants as virii reprogram our cells internal machinery to copy themselves, and collecting plenty of mixed other genetic material too. Doesn't the Ramban say that there were pre humans beasts created with the land chyot who lacked speech? What set Adom harishon apart was the neshama breathed into him, not his human DNA.
I also wonder if there is actually an ever min hachai from a cell culture, is there a shiur of cells constituting ever nin hachai? I think not by goyim. On the other hand if you are familiar with the decision on gelatin it was determined that without the tam and reduced as it is being neither basar nor shemen it was a flavorless chemical derived from the sinew, bone, and skin and not properly even food anymore but pareve.
I failed to mention above with the baby cow, the mother is schected properly before the calf is removed. Chazal saying that even further generations of living cows born from such a female calf inheriting the already schected status without the takina.

I believe that the Ramban's reference to Cro-Magnon men is Adnei Sadeh. And they communicated through grunting and cave-painting. They did NOT have a neshamah, and yes Dr. Schroeder talks about them in his books. Suddenly about 5500 years ago, writing first appeared indicating the presence of human beings who were capable of oral and written speech. The Cro-Magnon men were wiped out in the Great Flood but existed along side Bnai Adam for 1656 years. Once the neshamah entered the body of Adam, his body had intrinsic holiness, and when the neshamah goes, the body must be taken care of properly for it contained a neshamah. It truly can never be used for research at least according to Jewish law. As far as hybridization between human genes and animal genes, I am sure that this if forbidden since it either holds or once held a neshamah even if the DNA of Adnei Sadeh (Masters of the Field) is identical to human DNA. As far as stem cells research from fetuses are concerned, this is considered permissible halakhically as long as the fetus was not aborted for immoral reasons such as when the health or life of the mother are not as stake. Halakhah considers fetuses under 40 days from conception to have a status different than fetuses 40 days and older. A halakhic expert in this field should be consulted. Yet, forming a living, breathing hybrid made up of human and animal genes, I am sure is strongly forbidden as kilayim for Jews and non-Jews. If there are greater experts in this field, please feel free to comment.

It is kind of interesting that when The Island of Dr. Moreau was written, it was obviously considered a tale of horror. Yet, today there are genetic experts who would not wince at performing some of these same types of experiments with genetic splicing. We now have a 160 year tradition of considering ourselves to be toiling like monkeys (Amal Kof or Amalek). I guess the distinction between humans and animals has been blurred to the point that early Life Scientists warned us about. It is why Life Science trailed the rest of the scientific world by at least 100 years. Studying it was once done with caution, the idea being that Chemistry and Physics were for Man to study, but life science was treading on G-d's turf. Once Darwin released Origin of Species and Descent of Man, Life Science lost its sacrosanct forbidden quality because we could be studied like any other animal. At least Louis Pasteur from about the same time understood that Man was not just another animal, but Life Science predictably changed once we were considered no different than animals. And Man's behavior soon followed.

Further to your explanation above about cro-magnon era:
Right after Adam sinned, I read, he begot ‘many souls’ w/o Chava. Then he remarried her, and together they begot children. What happened to those ‘many souls’? Where/when do they appear in our biblical history; right before the Geula? Are they (reincarnated into) the Erev Rav? How/where does this fit into your above cro-magnon scenario?

8/07/2013 9:09 PM
Blogger Dov Bar-Leib said...

1. I am sure Anon. meant well.

2. Neshamah, the answer is in your name. The soul, the neshamah, is feminine and therefore has its source with its mother. So Adam having relations with soulless beings such as CroMagnon women produced offspring without neshamot. It is the same with a Jewish soul. One can only be born with a Jewish soul without need of conversion if the mother is a Jew. The Erev Rav as despicable as they can be actually have neshamot, even if their neshamot are not rooted in the Patriarchs and the Matriarchs of the Jewish people. There is another opinion that Adam had relations with demons. I think that he preferred the soulless cave women over the demons though. Also the Adnei Sadeh like other animals did have a nefesh behamit, an animal soul.

He actually carries this avodah zarah that sounds very similar to Mehuman, one of Haman's names, in his pants pocket. I believe that he was given a blessing in Indonesia on a visit to inculcate Hanuman into his very being. I believe that he has arrived at that point in his career, to toil like the Monkey god. I am sorry to hear people disappointed in our discussion of the holy Torah, I felt that the backswing after commending Reb Dov's comments was perhaps too close to rechilus or motzi shem rah even against someone only marked annon. To those disappointed I feel one of the downfalls in our generation is falling back on frumkite instead of honest analysis of the Torah and halacha as every generation before ours has done. You need not agree with my position but this is the process by which the Torah has survived from Moshe onward.
Reb dov, years ago blood transfusion and later organ transplants, then test tube initiated pregnancy was considered a disgusting abomination against the work of G-d, now with DNA the not-so-new frontier we would deny people with genetic illnesses, some deadly, the therapy they need to save themselves and their children? Insulin for life saving injection is now cheaply and safely produced by e-coli bacteria with grafted human DNA to trick it into excreting insulin, is this evil? Some day soon we will graft human DNA to growable flesh so we can quickly grow perfect and cheap hearts, kidneys, and livers custom coded to never cause an immune response and function for the lifetime of the patient, would we let these people die because it reminds of an agricultural mitzvah? What if bears or lobsters carried a snippet of genetic code which could be used in gene therapy to save a Jewish child victim of systic fibrosis?
Again genetic material transfer has happened naturally since the first virus, there is 'junk' transfered human DNA in cows, mosquitoes, and ducks, the same in reverse; this is where the huge percentage of unused or 'junk' DNA comes from in our genetic background viral pickup and transfer. These changes are the most common form of genetic alteration, not background radiation as was once thought, these changes transfer and are how we can test to find people carrying the so called Cohen gene.
We Jews do not don halacha based on gut feelings, nor do we hold back life saving science because we might distantly compare the work to a hok in the Torah or worse an old horror novel.
There is no secret Torah law, had Hashem wanted to ban genetic grafting it would have been clearly stated and understood by poskim in every generation form har Sinai.
If anything the natural lateral DNA transfer is analogous to the kashrut of bacteria, we have no issur on ingesting unseeable organisms as the Torah is written so it can be kept even in generations without microscopes, so too are we too frum to use a natural process in a deliberate manner no more evil than fermenting wine or making cheese to not just save lives but maybe even reduce the cost of a koshe mehadrin shabbos cholent for a poor family.

In a similar vein, Anon., there is a treatment for leaky aortic valves to replace the existing human valve with a pig's valve since the heart of a pig is mechanically very similar to a human heart. Millions of people have had their lives saved with this surgery. There is no question that this is permissible since it saves so many lives. I happen to know of a well-known Rav who for whatever reason chose not to do have this surgery done on himself, but this is the rare exception to the rule. Halakhically there would have been no problem to transplant the pig valve, but for certain special souls, they have enough powerful faith to not have this surgery performed on themselves. Pikuach nefesh obviously trumps the mitzvah of kilayim.

8/08/2013 12:05 AM
Blogger Dov Bar-Leib said...

There are mechanical valves that can be used instead, but there are other dangers such as clotting in the heart that can result from using mechanical valves. So it seems porcine (pig) or bovine (bull) tissue is a safer option for replacement valve surgery. And yes this is a form of animal tissue grafting on the human heart for pikuach nefesh. The key is that these things can be done to save human life.

Reb Dov: Agree with you. The key word you used is 'pikuach nefesh' and that's, of course, another matter. That trumps most everything. Think that common sense is what is always needed, but today with such advanced technology, think things have gotten and can get out of hand and go against Jewish sensibilities. Even if there might be loopholes in halacha to satisfy the use of many new innovations, doesn't mean it is proper or ethical. Life seemed more precious and respected before this era of anything goes. Camp David Accord and the Oslo Accord were both signed on the White House lawn. Thanks in part to Alexander Hamilton, the one Jew amongst the Founding Fathers (his mother was a Jew), the POTUS is basically an autocrat in the everyday running of foreign policy. Congress only has 3 foreign policy powers. 1. It is Congress that must declare war. Presidents get around this by doing police actions that last less than 60 to 90 days which do not require Declarations of War. Obama just uses the UN Security Council which in his mind has replaced the US Congress. 2. The US Senate must ratify international treaties with a 2/3rds majority. Presidents get around this by not signing treaties when making decisions. 3. Congress approves all funding for foreign adventures. Other than these three powers, Presidents do whatever they darn well please in foreign policy. They regularly ignore Congressional intrusions which tell them what to do in foreign policy. Presidents ignore veto proof majorities to move embassies to Jerusalem. They laugh it off and do the opposite of what Congress demands in almost all areas of foreign policy. Unless Congress buckles down, the President gets away with almost everything he does internationally. Rarely do they even enforce the War Powers Act which requires a President to seek a Declaration of War within 60 to 90 days of starting a "police action". Controlling Obama is foreign affairs will become even more of a farce when America won't even protect its own southern border from illegal immigrants. If Congress just lets him do that, then they may as well let him become an Autocrat.

Very quickly, we are not to add to the Torah, that includes lightly closing off mutar things. over 3500 years how few things that are 100% mutar have we closed away? A personal chumra which brings you closer is different as long as you explain to your sons the reason, but we do not bring an issur onto ourselves and then cause ourselves to sin lightly.
I think the talk of banning genetic manipulation to ourselves for more than pikuach nefesh, and the research yeilds the both the life saving breakthroughs are increased by economy of scale in research and industry, this talk comes lightly because many of us don't have access to a lab and lack the education to understand the process and we are left to make weighty decisions based on not much more than gut feelings informed by entertainment media.
I have never known a single posek to be against genetic manipulation, nor do I know of a halachic source to begin to base such an argument on, keeliym is more about forbidden mixing crops more related to shatznez as they are unable to successfully cross pollinate. The halacha of cross breeding is invalid too as when we read the commentary it is about the creating of a sterile mule which will miss the opportunity of paru ubou that is avoided. I would love to hear an applicable teshuva from an informed gadol on the topic. Unfortunately some teshuvot are based on bad information to the gadol so the way the question was asked also means much in such a scientific-halachic discussion.

However, in every lie is a shtickle emes, so says the Torah.
And that's what the writer did.

On Yeranen Yaakov's blog:
Elul 25 on Shabbat
We find in the Zohar (Balak 112b) that at the beginning of the process of the coming of Mashiah, the 25th of Elul will fall out on Shabbat. This occurs in both 5773 and 5774.

....close to 20/21 Elul. BE''H may we see the beginning of the end soon in our days.

Excerpt of Debka report:
According to the information reaching debkafile, Kerry’s motive in summoning American Jewish leaders to the White House was his belief that progress in the negotiations has brought the Israeli prime minister close to a crossroads. He will soon face a decision to reshuffle his cabinet and replace ministers who would oppose the terms of the interim accord shaping up with Palestinians. For this step, he would find the support of American Jewry helpful.
Netanyahu will soon need to present the leaders of the pro-settlement Israel Beteinu and Bayit Yehudi parties with the choice of backing him up all the way to the accord with the Palestinians to which the US Secretary is steering at speed, or quitting the government coalition. The same question will be put to Netanyahu’s own Likud party members.

Annon, there have been GMOs in the regular food chain that used animal and insect DNA for over a decade with even the strictest bedatz and mehadrin hecshures. I would worry about possible allergy issues the same as I would with preservatives and colors as they can contain unusual proteins sometimes but so far I have never heard a kashrut issue raised. We have simanim for kosher food, GMO plants or animals with kosher simanim are kosher.

Because of the comment limit of 200 comments on each post, I need to open up a temporary post. We are busy until Monday afternoon. At that time, bli neder, I will write a new post....before the release of 26 murderers by the State of Israel's Judenrat in order to keep Obama and his bloodthirsty henchman, Lurch, the Ba'al Kerry happy. He should have spent more time grounding speedboats in the Mekong Delta.
