The Rambam on x (times) 4 and x 5.

Every year at the Pesach Seder we read the following:

Rav Yosei the Galilean says, "How can you come to say that the Mitzrim were struck by ten plagues in Mitzra'im and 50 at the Sea?"  Of the plagues in Mitzra'im it says that black magicians said to Pharoah (regarding the plague of lice), it is the finger of G-d (Exodus 8:15).  Of those by the Sea what does the Torah say?  It says, "When Yisrael saw the Great Hand that HaShem placed up Mitzra'im (at the Sea),  the people feared HaShem and believed in HaShem and in His servant Moshe." (Exodus 14:31).  How many plagues were done with the Finger of G-d?  Ten.  Then it follows that if there were ten plagues in Mitzra'im, there were 50 plagues at the Sea.

The above corresponds to the first redemption from Mitzraim being a manifestation of the Yud and the first Hey in HaShem's Name.  The Yud is the ten plagues in Mitzra'im, and the Hey was the five times multiplier at the Yam Suf (the Sea of Reeds).  As discussed at length on this blog, the Final Redemption will be with the Yud Key Vav and then with the Final Hey when the Mt. of Olives is split in two instead of the Sea of Reeds.  Continued....

Rav Eliezer says, "From where do we know that each plague that HaKodesh Baruch Hu brought upon the Mitzrim in Mitzraim consisted of four plagues?"  As it says, "He sent upon them His burning anger, (1. Wrath), (2. and Indignation), (3. and Trouble), (4. a dispatching of messengers of evil.)"  (Psalm 78:49)   One can say from this that in Mitzra'im they were struck with 40 plagues, and at the Sea with 200 plagues.

Rav Akiva says, "From where do we know that each plague that HaKodesh Baruch Hu brought upon the Mitzrim in Mitzraim consisted of five plagues (not four)?"  As it says, "He sent upon them (1. His burning anger), (2. Wrath), (3. and Indignation), (4. and Trouble), (5. a dispatching of messengers of evil.)" (Psalm 78:49)  One can say from this that in Mitzra'im they were struck with 50 plagues, and at the Sea with 250 plagues.

One can ask until the cows come home how can one look at the exact same verse in Tehillim and get two different answers?  Why in one analysis is His burning anger one of the plagues, but in the other analysis is His burning anger not a plague?   The most common answer is that His burning anger is a composite description of the four manifestations of His anger.  Ok, but is there a deeper explanation?  That deeper explanation is provided by the author of the Mishneh Torah, the Rambam, who happened to call his great work, Yad HaChazakah (The Mighty Hand) in reference to this same Hand of G-d on which we are anthropomorphically counting all five fingers.  This is what he says is the deeper meaning behind the dispute between Rav Eliezer and Rav Akiva:

The deeper meaning of the dispute originates in the very significance of the numbers 4 and 5.  The four stands for Yud Key Vav Key the Tetragrammaton, and the five stands for Elokim (Aleph, Lamed, Hey, Yud, Mem).  Yud Key Vav Key refers to HaShem exercising his quality of Mercy, and Elokim refers to Him exercising His quality of Judgement.  The gematriah of Yud Key Vav Key is of course 26 while the gematriah of Elokim is 86.  And of course Yud Key Vav Key is composed of four letters while Elokim is composed of five letters.  The plagues had the dual aspect of punishing the Egyptians and liberating Klal Yisrael (judgement on our oppressor and mercy on HaShem's first born).  Rav Eliezer considered these plagues primarily as mercy on Klal Yisrael while Rav Akiva considered these plagues primarily as judgement on the Egyptians (the Mitzrim).

As difficult as these releases of murderers have been, let us take comfort in the fact that there are only FOUR such releases of 26 murderers each as we approach this coming Purim and Pesach.

I am delaying posting about the Valley of Yehoshafat and other matters to see if these pieces talks will be delayed until after the US Congressional midterm elections next November so that Democrats in key northeast districts don't get pounced upon by their Jewish constituents.  Netanyahu, the great procrastinator, basically told the Ba'al Kerry that he would like a stay of execution until after those elections to avoid doing horrible things to his own people for almost another year.  For a very long time now I have wondered whether the Axis of Evil in the Obamanation Administration would bring the hammer down in their minds on Israel before or after those pesky midterm elections.  If Obamanation considers his dictatorship as being solidified, he won't wait on imposing the crowning glory of his wicked rule: the division of the Land of Israel.  We will know next week, when the Ba'al Kerry announces his plan of imposition of division of the Land of Israel, whether or not he wants Pieces Now or Pieces after the Nov. Midterm elections.  So while the "9 months" of Geulah b'Rachamim apparently began with 4 x 26 murderers being released starting last Av and ending during Pesach, the "9 months" of Geulah b'Din, which ends next Sukkot, begins next week just before Tu B'Shevat.  Maybe by then we will take note of something taking place 5 times 86?  It will be curious to see.

May this post bring about an Aliyah to my father's neshamah, Aryeh Leib ben Shmu'el who passed on to the next world on the 6th of Shevat 5734.

I've read that Obama's name is encoded in Ezekiel 38 begining with the Alef in nasi, prince verse 2 then every seven letters spells Obama Alef-Vav-Beit-Alef-Mem-Hei. What the article didn't include is that Obama's name starts up again with the second nasi in verse 3 but only goes Alef-Vav-Beit then a Tav, the end, last letter. Looks like a term and a half to me.

Why would in your view the Geula be Din begin early next week, right before Tu Bishvat? And on what day precisely? What is the connection in your view between the beginning of this Geula be Din and Parshat Beshalach, the Parshah of our first Geula? Why Geula be Din starting now and not Geula Berachamim? Please specify?

DS: The tenth of Nisan or the Shabbat before Pesach is Shabbat HaGadol (the Great Shabbat). The tenth of Tishrei (Yom Kippur) along with Rosh HaShana and Hoshana Rabba are all known as Yom HaGadol veHaNora: great and awesome days of the L-rd. While Israel would be judged b'Rachamim on the 10th of Nisan for Geulah (with the coming of Eliyahu HaNavi?? to give us besorot tovot and nechamot), the nations of the world will be judged with Din during the Autumn of the year before the great and awesome Day of the L-rd (Hoshana Rabba).

Blogger Dov Bar-Leib said...

The Great and Awesome Day of the L-rd though does not begin on the 7th Day of Sukkot, Hoshana Rabba. It begins on the First Day of Sukkot (probably with the splitting of the Mt. of Olives). So 266 or 271 days BEFORE Sukkot is this coming week before Tu B'Shevat. 266 days or 271 days are the days of pregnancy.

This all could have happened last year if our linguine spined PM had simply told the world to go to h-ll when it suggested releasing murderers last July, but our fearless leaders were willing to dehumanized the lot of us by releasing these murderers for nothing. So this year in 5774 they have no decision making role that could prevent this process from unfolding either in 5774, right now, or in 5775 after the Congressional midterm elections in the US.

This latest travesty document is such a joke! Kerry and the Saudis are confusing the Israelis with empty words, wearing down any action or enthusiasm, word by word, with ALL concessions negative to Israel without altering the stance of the Arabs. Such a blatant distortion and manipulation, falling upon the eyes of the Israeli politicians, and it doesn't end, as they wear away at Netanyahu's resolve.

At this time in history where there is no faith in HaShem, there will be no resolve to resist. Resistance is only futile if you don't really believe in G-d's salvation.

Why would Eliyahu HaNavi show up this year of all years?? Simple. This is the year of Kolot (Heavenly Voices). There are two such possibilities: The Voice of the Shofar or the Voice of Eliyahu Hanavi as in Kol Mevaser Mevaser ve'Omer x 3. The Voice of the Great Shofar already blew in the year 5750 (3/4 of the way through the 6th Millennium to call Russian and Ethiopian Jews to Eretz Yisrael to prepare for Yom sheKulo Shabbat.) The Russian Jews are descendants of the lost ones from the Land of Ashur, and the Ethiopian Jews were the castaways from the Land of Mitzraim. So by process of elimination, the Kolot of the 6th year, this year, must be the prophesies of Eliyahu HaNavi.

It is to be expected that Netanyahu would succumb to "The Borg", the Beast machine in Sefer Daniel 7. The 11th horn dude is riding on top in his limo, The Beast. And one of his top lieutenants is the Ba'al Kerry. Don't be frightened, but Netanyahu is frightened because he does not call on his infinitely powerful Friend. In the CFR world of real politick, there seems to be no hope because he hardly ever brings HaShem into the equation. So by Pesach HaShem will butt into the equation whether or not Bibi invites Him in. That was the problem last year. Our fearful leader was given an opportunity to invite HaShem in in order to bring about the meteorite shower on the City of Rome before the end of 5773. During Av Bibi could have preserved the sanctity of his soul by rejecting the entire idea of the release of 104 bloodthirsty savages. But he chose to play the role as head of the Judenrat by dehumanizing himself and the rest of us. Who else besides a faithless Jew would even think of doing such a thing? He saw The Borg approaching and succumbed totally.

Tzohar Calls for Regulation of Shmita Produce Prices

The Tzohar rabbinical organization called, Tuesday, for government regulation of prices for produce during the Shmita seventh year of the Jewish agricultural cycle, when - in theory - the land is supposed to lie fallow. The Shmita year restrictions are scheduled to start in September

While there are imports to address the situation, there are steps, under Jewish religious law, for the land to be farmed, one of which calls for charging only the costs of production when it comes to determining the price of produce. In a position paper submitted to the Knesset State Control Committee in response to the State Comptroller's report on preparations for the Shmita year, Tzohar said, "We must eradicate the phenomenon of kosher organizations producing huge profits from the treatment of fruit of the seventh year, instead of settling for reimbursement only."

Ambassador Shapiro: Kerry optimistic about final Mid East accord
DEBKAfile January 7, 2014, 1:11 PM (GMT+02:00)

US Ambassador Dan Shapiro reported Tuesday that US Secretary of State John Kerry would soon return to the region and was optimistic about his chances of bringing the Israelis and Palestinians to a final peace accord, even though gaps remain on all the core issues.. Shapiro referred to “new elements” in the proposed framework, introduced after Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas were found in private conversations to be willing to take hard decisions. Kerry is now aiming not at an interim accord but a final-status agreement that will cover all the central issues of the dispute.

Porush: Hareidim will Seek International Support

UTJ MK Meir Porush said on Tuesday, "When, in the past, the lifestyle of Hareidi Jewry in Israel was hampered and threatened by anti-religious government legislation, its mentors and Rabbinical leadership turned to international gentile sources in an attempt to have them pressure Israel into granting Hareidim their basic rights without condemning them to emigrate overseas in order to maintain their lifestyle. We have apparently come to such dire straits again, and with draft coercion looming and threatening our ability to subsist and study Torah in the holy land, it would appear that our leadership will resort to drastic measures once again."

"The aim is to bring about a situation in which no diplomatic negotiations are carried out regarding extreme concessions that undermine the state of Israel's Jewish identity and widen the rift within Israeli society, unless the negotiations are approved by a majority of the members of the Knesset,” Regev explained. "Such an act would be unacceptable, anti-democratic, and according to this bill, illegal as well – so that if negotiations are carried out without the Knesset's approval, they will not have any validity.”

‘Treaty of Hudaybiyyah’ - US-Brokered Deal 'Just the First Stage' in Israel's Demise

Arutz Sheva: “As US-brokered talks between Israel and the Palestinian Authority (PA) continue, amid pressure for further territorial concessions by Israel, a senior Palestinian Authority official has told Syrian TV that any agreement will simply be the “first stage” in eradicating Israel altogether.

Earlier this year (July 2013), in a speech attended by Mahmoud Abbas, the PA’s Religious Affairs Minister explained that any treaties with Israel should be viewed as another ‘Treaty of Hudaybiyyah’ - a reference to a “temporary” deal signed by Islam’s founder Muhammad, which was promptly broken as soon as the Muslim armies were strong enough to achieve victory.”

Opinion: That the current peace talks are based on the Hudaybiyyah Treaty only gives further evidence of an all out Arab/Israeli war. But as for Israel’s demise, Obadiah 1:18 tells us that the house of Jacob (Israel) will endure damage, but the house of Esau (Palestinians) will be destroyed.

The Treaty of Hudaybiyyah (March 628 AD) was a pivotal treaty between Mohammed, representing the state of Medina, and the Quraish tribe of Mecca. Mohammed never intended to keep the treaty and had his deputy sign on his behalf. Less than two years after making the treaty with the people of Mecca, Mohammed returned with an army, slaughtered the tribe and took the city by surprise.

If the deal is signed, here is what to expect from the Hudaybiyah Treaty model:

Palestinians will utilize the agreement to their benefit, i.e. prisoner release/land for peace.
Someone other than Abbas’ will sign it (possibly chief negotiator Saeb Erekat).
1. Palestinian side will violate every clause that does not suit their goal of the destruction of the Jewish state.
2. War to eradicate Israel as a Jewish state will fail.
3. Palestinian side destroyed.

Report: Kerry is Behind European Boycotts

Governmental sources report that US Secretary of State John Kerry is behind the European boycott threats on Israeli products and companies operating in Judea, Samaria, eastern Jerusalem and the Golan Heights.

The EU published its guidelines last July, boycotting Israeli companies operating over the 1949 Armistice lines.

At the moment, Kerry is making sure the threats stay in check, but as soon as the peace talks fail he intends to open the floodgates and spur on full-blown international boycotts on Israel, reports Galei Tzahal (IDF Radio).

Palestinian Authority (PA) officials reported last September that Kerry was putting pressure on the EU to delay boycotts so as to give him an opportunity to push Israel into peace talks. That report also appears to support the new revelations regarding Kerry's manipulation of anti-Israel boycotts.

All his articles basically state something like - we see XYZ (XYZ.. = catastrophes, wars, etc.) and he then predict more XYZ's (wow - what deep insight). Each week is basically a repetition with the addition of a couple of that week’s current events. He then throws in some cheerleading about living in Israel (by the way, I personally happen to live in Israel), and lo-and-behold he has a cult-like following, reading his childish articles. I invite anyone to google "Nir Ben Artzi fraud" or similar for more info.

Bottom line, it's about time we avoid these "superheroes" and look for articles from intelligent people that actually have something more sophisticated and insightful to say.

But let us end those criticisms here and now. He does give hope and encouragement to a heck of a lot of folks who live here.

Something to look forward to in the next three months is the subject of the final birur where the Erev Rav seals their fate. The issue will be "sharing" or splitting Yerushalayim. It will be painful to watch the parade of wicked fools bow their heads in resignation to that one. But that might be the last free will decision that they ever make. Netanyahu plans a national referendum on US peace framework to extend negotiations for another year

DEBKAfile Exclusive Report January 7, 2014, 9:57 PM (IDT)

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu is planning to conjduct the first popular referendum in Israel’s history to ratify the amended peace framework proposal which US Secretary of State John Kerry is drafting for presentation in the coming weeks, debkafile reveals.

The prime minister has been quoted as saying that he needs the referendum to push back “domestic pressures from the right”, but in any case he believes it will be politically advantageous. He has confided to his closest circle that for the first time that he is in favor of the Kerry proposals and, although they don’t see eye to eye on many of the issues, he thinks the gaps between them can be bridged.
Netanyahu is counting on the the framework accord gaining an overwhelming popular majority in referendum. Although it is not yet a final-status agreement, the document will lay out principles for solutions of the core issues at dispute between Israel and the Palestinians.
After Netanyahu and Abu Mazen affirm this paper, it will be possible to extend the negotiating time frame for a final accord by at least another year and so get past the original nine-month deadline which expires at the end of April.

Our sources add that the prime minister regards the Obama administration’s acceptance of Israel as the Jewish national state to be an historic achievement of unparalleled importance. He believes he can find common ground with Secretary Kerry on Jerusalem as well. He was encouraged to learn that Kerry is working on a formula that avoids citing E. Jerusalem as the capital of a future Palestinian state, only as a goal for their national aspirations.

Intense exchanges are gong back and forth on the security arrangements for the Jordan Valley which runs along Israel’s eastern border, and the number and area of the Jewish settlements remaining under Israeli sovereignty.

A number of settlements outside the main blocs are due for removal, despite reports to the contrary, but the argument among the Americans, Israelis and Palestinians is over a timetable for their staged evacuation which is counted in years.
US Ambassador Dan Shapiro precisely defined the current state of the negotiating process when he said in an interview to Kol Israel Radio Tuesday, Jan. 7, that the proposed US framework in which new elements have been introduced is not designed to generate an interim accord but “a final agreement on all the issues at the center of the Israeli-Palestinian dispute.”

Netanyahu does not expect the right-of-center Jewish Home to actually quit the government coalition over the US initiative, even though its leader, the Economy Minister Naftali Bennet, declared Tuesday that his party would not stay in a government that withdraws to the pre-1967 borders or repartitions Jerusalem.

Circles close to the prime minister said that he hopes Kerry won’t have a sudden change of heart and go back on his plans and their points of agreement, because then the huge effort invested in the current peace process will turn to dust.

United States sending more troops and tanks to South Korea
By REUTERS/JP

WASHINGTON, - The United States said on Tuesday it will send 800 more soldiers and about 40 Abrams main battle tanks and other armored vehicles to South Korea next month as part of a military rebalance to East Asia after more than a decade of war in Afghanistan and Iraq.

The battalion of troops and M1A2 tanks and about 40 Bradley fighting vehicles from the 1st US Cavalry Division based at Fort Hood, Texas, will begin a nine-month deployment in South Korea on Feb. 1.

A Pentagon spokesman said the personnel would remain for nine months but on departing would leave their equipment behind to be used by follow-on rotations of US forces.

"This addition of forces to Korea is part of the rebalance to the Pacific. It's been long planned and is part of our enduring commitment to security on the Korean peninsula," Army Colonel Steve Warren said.

"This gives the commanders in Korea an additional capacity: two companies of tanks, two companies of Bradleys," he said.

The United States has some 28,000 troops based in South Korea, which has remained technically at war with Communist North Korea since the 1950-1953 Korean conflict ended in stalemate.

The nations' change of heart

What is replaying in front of us today is the that the nations of the world are regretting that the ever agreed to a Jewish national state in the Land of Israel. In stages, they now try to reverse their decision by taking the Land back and giving it to our enemies.

This reminds me of this week's parsha, BeShalach. Pharaoh had a change of heart. He went after Am Yisroel to bring them back to captivity and slavery. Chazal say that H' arranged this because He wished to demonstrate conclusively, both to the Jews and to the world at large, that He was the Master of all; for when the wicked is punished, G'd is glorified. So He arranged the Splitting of the Sea. For this to happen, Pharaoh had to regret his decision to let the Jews go and he had to overcome his terror at standing in their way - the terror of plagues and especially the Plague of the Firstborn.

So today. The world is overcoming its bad conscience about the Holocaust even though there are still witnesses and victims alive today from that horrifying tragedy.

Thus, to me it is obvious. G'd wants again to demonstrate conclusively, both to the Jews and to the world at large, that He and only He is the Master of all; punishing the wicked, the haters and enemies of the People of Israel, His beloved Nation, His dear Children.

May we soon see His Glory in all Its grandeur.

Netanyahu may suffer if he signs peace deal, settler spokeman says

The Times Of Israel: “David Wilder, the spokesman for Hebron’s Jewish community, has written an article published by various right-wing Jewish outlets arguing that Ariel Sharon, Yitzhak Rabin and Menachem Begin all met unhappy ends because they surrendered land. And he warns Netanyahu that he is liable to suffer a similar fate if he gives up land to the Palestinians.

Opinion: In Genesis 12:3, God made an unconditional, everlasting covenant with Abraham. Nowhere in the Bible does it say that God ever rescinded it. “I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.”

Menachem Begin: On September 17, 1978 Begin, along with President Jimmy Carter and Anwar Sadat, signed the Camp David Accords. Israel agreed to return the Sinai to Egypt. Begin lived his last years in seclusion until his death in 1992. Anwar Sadat was assassinated.

Yitzhak Rabin signed the 1993 Oslo Accords with US President Bill Clinton and Yasser Arafat giving autonomy to the Palestinians over the West Bank (Judea and Samaria) and the Gaza Strip. On November , 2005 Rabin was assassinated.

Ariel Sharon: After signing the Gaza Expulsion Plan in September 2005, he suffered a massive stroke on January 3, 2006 and lapsed into a coma a short time later. Sharon has been in a vegetative state for 8 years.

All three of the above prime ministers of Israel were secular Jews. Benjamin Netanyahu is an Old Testament Bible student. Has he learned?

The leaders who are involved in the Israeli/Palestinian peace process are determined to divide the land and will face judgment as well: ”I will also gather all nations, And bring them down to the Valley of Jehoshaphat; And I will enter into judgment with them there On account of My people, My heritage Israel, Whom they have scattered among the nations; They have also divided up My land …” Joel 3:2-3.

After 10 years, largest eruv in UK going operational
By JTA/JP

The United Kingdom’s largest eruv will be usable for the first time this Sabbath.

The Manchester eruv took 10 years to plan and construct and is the UK’s most technically complex enclosure, according to the London Jewish Chronicle.

Eruv experts from Jerusalem spent 10 days inspecting the enclosure before declaring it ready for use on Friday, the newspaper reported. The boundary is 13 miles long and cuts across three boroughs of Manchester.

According to Jewish law, the eruv permits religious Jews to carry items in public on the Sabbath, including pushing baby carriages.

Meanwhile, the Conference of European Rabbis has published what it says is the first comprehensive list of kosher products certified by European kashrut authorities. The items are searchable by country, brand name, food type and kashrut authority.

“This online resource is a fantastic example of how modern technology can be used to make religious life a little easier,” Rabbi Pinchas Goldschmidt, president of the Conference of European Rabbis, said in a statement. “The project comes following a huge amount of hard work over recent months, and we will of course continue to update and improve it.”

Bibi Netanyahu has revived a tradition of bible study in the PM's house. It was first started by David Ben Gurion. He asked Jewish Bible teacher, Micah Goodman, to lead it and Goodman commented that Bibi was quite an intellectual and asks some tough questions.

Goodman also said that as the leader of the Jewish people in a volatile Middle East, Netanyahu needs a refuge from time to time.

"He escaped to the Bible, to something that's beyond time, beyond politics, beyond the day to day. And diving into this great text and dealing with these great ideas, somehow, he felt like it was a breath of fresh air for him," Goodman explained.

Netanyahu said he studies the Hebrew Bible with his sons every sabbath. Two years ago, his younger son, Avner, placed third in the Annual International Bible Competition held in Jerusalem.

Goodman said that Netanyahu told the group that when he reads the Bible, he's always shocked at how relevant it is.

"And so we're studying our map and our compass and our foundation, the Bible," Netanyahu concluded. "And you're all welcome to join us, especially if you can learn Hebrew."

Micah Goodman - Source the Hartman Institute

A research fellow at the Shalom Hartman Institute, Micah Goodman has a doctorate in Jewish thought from The Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Micah teaches at The Hebrew University of Jerusalem and lectures throughout Israel on contemporary Judaism and Israeli culture.

He directs Ein Prat - The Academy for Leadership. Micah has published articles in a number of journals on the philosophy of Maimonides and Nahmanides. His book on Maimonides' Guide for the Perplexed was published in 2010, and his second book, The Dream of the Kuzari, was published in 2012. Both books are bestsellers in Israel.

His pre-Rosh Hashanah video lectures for rabbis and others are eagerly anticipated.

Recently there has been much ink spilled in discussing the rather depressing polls, on both sides of the Atlantic, on the condition of contemporary Judaism. Namely, the lack of religious participation or commitment to Jewish institutions by large swathes of Jews in America and Britain.
Alarming as these polls were, the phenomena it concluded are nothing new.

In this week’s Sedra, Chaye Sarah (the life of Sarah), which commences with the death and burial of Sarah, there was no indication that the Jewish experiment was going to get past the starting post!
Her husband, Abraham, had been promised by God several times that they would be the parents of a large number of descendents and that they would have the Land of Israel as a homeland.
At her death, they possessed no property in Canaan or had any offspring other than the unmarried Isaac, and according to some opinions it was the news, albeit false, of Isaac’s death being sacrificed by his father that caused Sarah to expire.

Her life’s work appears to be all for naught. No land and no Jewish grandchildren.

n the two narratives that take up most of the Torah reading, Abraham sets out to correct those omissions, by purchasing the burial grounds in Hebron at an enormous price and sending his trusty servant, Eliezer, on a successful mission to find a wife for Isaac, namely Rebecca.

Subsequently, Isaac and Rebecca marry and the text tells us he takes her into his mother’s tent.
On this seemingly minor action, our Sages made a remarkably intuitive comment in a midrash, saying that the three blessings extant when Sarah was alive, now returned. There was a light was burning in the tent from one Shabbat eve to the next, there was always a blessing in the dough and a cloud was always hanging over the tent as a Divine protection.

1/08/2014 8:12 PM
Anonymous Meir M. said...

Chazal explain that these phenomena correspond exactly to three Commandments that are incumbent upon women to perform.

1. "A Light Burning": This refers to the mitzvah of kindling the Shabbat candles which are the harbinger of peace and tranquility in the Jewish home. So important is this mitzvah that if the lady of the house forgets to light before Shabbat or a Festival she should light one extra candle for the rest of her life!

2. "A Blessing in the Dough": A woman who bakes her own Shabbat loaves is automatically obligated (assuming the quantity is large enough) in fulfilling the mitzvah of separating a piece of dough, the challah (the two loaves of braided bread that adorn most Shabbat tables took on this term, but it is not technically correct) and disposing of it in the prescribed manner, reenacting the donating of it to the Priests when the Temple in Jerusalem was still in use. Only then is the bread kosher, fit to eat. A harbinger of the importance of the kosher kitchen.

3. "A Cloud of Protection": This refers to the Divine protection granted to Jewish marriages when laws of family purity are observed. This mostly means the prohibition of sexual intimacy during the menstrual period that can only resume with the woman’s immersion in a mikvah.

The word mikvah means a ritual pool of water but it can also mean hope.

In the Talmud, Rabbi Akiva proclaimed that the future of the Jewish nation is guaranteed through the observance of these laws which bring continued vitality and renewal to Jewish family life.

Perhaps this can help us understand a difficult, rather brutal, Mishna, an oral law, actually more of a Rabbinic statement than a law, that says that the non-performance of these commandments lead to death in child birth. We know that this is not literally true, and therefore it is an allegory for Jewish continuity.

Sarah’s life was not for naught.
Nearly two thousand years ago or so, our Sages, noticing a similar disaffection in their time, created a Midrash, that declared that 80% of the Jewish slaves in Egypt, were equally disinterested, and were not part of the Exodus.

There are three pillars of Jewish ritual observance that are the essence of Jewish continuity. These are Shabbat, Kashrut and Taharat Mishpacha, the fidelity to the observance of Sabbath, of eating ritually permitted foods and the adherence to of the laws of family purity, respectively.

Would just like to add in regards to the difference between Menachem Begin and Bibi Netanyahu. PM Begin was a traditional Jew of the old school from Europe, where practically all those who didn't fall into the ugly trap of communism at that time, were at least traditional, if not religious. He had yirat Shamayim and true Ahavat Yisrael, whereas Netanyahu is just another captive of what most Jews are today to the world of Eisav. He is proud to be a Jew but he hasn't got yirat Shamayim and to him the Tanach is a brilliant history book of the Jewish people and am sure the Nach is more interesting to him than the five books, except for the history part. Reminds us of (l'havdil) to King Ahab of Israel who was infamous to being a very wicked king (that's why l'havdil) who loved to learn Torah but yet was its greatest sinner. He had but one merit that is the opposite of Bibi, wherein Ahab increased the territories of Israel and not the reverse, as we see the plan of Bibi's is giving away our Land, r'l. For this the sages tell us that there was a question whether Ahab would gain Olam Habah, because of that mitzvah.

Correct, Begin was not a card carrying member of the CFR. He was NOT a cog in the wheel of the foreign policy of Malkhut Edom. Yet, even there he made a few mistakes. I think most of us forgive Begin because the Peace Treaty with Egypt has now lasted for 35 years: 2 years with Sadat, 30 years with Mubarak, and now 3 more turbulent years where the present military leader Sisi looks at Israel as his number one ally. So it looks like a treaty that has actually worked for what is now 35 years.

Has it been perfect? of course not. And perhaps Begin should have put his foot down over Yamit and the NE corner of the Sinai. Then Gaza would have been completely surrounded with no ability of the border being tunneled under.

This would have included Yamit, of course.

A Place Among the Nations: Israel Among The Nations

By Benjamin Netanyahu
Reviewed by William B. Quandt

Source: the Council on Foreign Relations, Inc.

The Netanyahu view of Middle East history is simple: endless betrayal by the West of promises made to the Jewish people, ferocious hostility from the Arabs, and heroic achievements by the Israelis. In his version of the Balfour Declaration, illustrated with a uniquely misleading map, Britain promised all of Palestine, east and west of the Jordan River, as the Jewish national home. The only problem with this image, and much of the rest of the historical sections of the book, is that it is not well grounded in fact. This is history as reinvented to suit political purposes. (If you have any doubts, read the actual text of the Balfour Declaration, which for some reason is not included in the many appendices to the book).

Despite the many footnotes, most reflecting casual scholarship at best, this is more a book of conviction and ideology than anything else. Read as such, the book is a true reflection of mainstream views within Israel's Likud party, which Netanyahu now heads. When he finally comes to the awkward question of what to do with the large Arab population that will remain under Israeli control if the West Bank and Gaza are retained, Netanyahu admits that there is a problem, but says that it will be solved by massive Jewish immigration, allowing the Palestinians to live as foreigners under Israeli rule, and perhaps to become citizens after a prolonged period of good behavior. In short, the kind of deal that Israel and the PLO have recently reached is anathema to Netanyahu. He is convinced that peace can only be achieved through an overwhelming display of Israeli power and radical transformation of the Arab world. While Netanyahu is harsh in his critique of the perfidious West and the untrustworthy Arabs, his real quarrel seems to be with the position of the majority of the Israeli public that is ready to reach a negotiated agreement with the Arabs involving the return of occupied territories in exchange for Arab commitments of peace, security and recognition. His book serves the useful purposes of making clear the nature of the dividing line in Israeli politics and of reminding moderate Arabs that they have every reason to negotiate with a Labor-led government, since Likud's views would preclude any agreement based on territorial compromise.

The Prime Ministers
An Intimate Narrative of Israeli Leadership by Yehuda Avner

Reviewed by Asaf Romirowsky
Middle East Forum

Middle East Quarterly
Winter 2012

Former Israeli ambassador Avner offers a literary, distinctive, and colorful look into the inner sanctums of diplomacy and politics of the Jewish state. As speech writer and secretary to prime ministers Eshkol and Meir, adviser to prime ministers Rabin, Begin, and Peres, and ambassador to the court of St. James, Avner is uniquely positioned to bring to light the qualities and the temperaments of these leaders, so influential in laying the foundations of the state of Israel.

Most significantly, Avner shows through firsthand accounts that Israeli prime ministers on the left and the right worked diligently toward peace against seemingly insurmountable odds. His distinctive contribution is to disclose the brainstorming that took place behind closed doors before and after difficult decisions were made public.

The Prime Ministers illustrates how Israeli statesmen have dealt with and represented the Jewish state to the global community, highlighting the quandaries in which civil servants often find themselves. Israeli ambassadors to the United States, for example, are required to negotiate the political Beltway—as well as the American Jewish community at large—as representatives of the State of Israel, not as commanders or even policymakers. Yitzhak Rabin, for example, was revered as the Israel Defense Forces chief of staff and later the prime minister who dared to embark on the Oslo peace process. But although Rabin understood the need to make a case for Israel in the U.S. political system, as ambassador to the United States in 1968, he was not savvy enough to know what methods might actually backfire. In the eyes of polished diplomats like Abba Eban, Rabin did not seem suited for the role; Eban often complained to Begin and other members of the Israeli parliament about Rabin's vocal support for Richard Nixon, jumping into what Eban argued should be a non-issue in U.S.-Israeli relations. By 1992, when Rabin was elected prime minister for the second time, it was clear he had learned from the past. Managing to find just the right combination of toughness and flexibility, he charmed Washington and specifically then-president Bill Clinton, who considered him a seasoned diplomat and warrior.

Avner also offers valuable insight to those of his countrymen who would pursue a diplomatic career: "[I]t is not enough for an Israeli ambassador here to simply say 'I'm pursuing my country's best interests according to the book.' … An Israeli ambassador who is … unwilling to maneuver his way through the complex American political landscape to promote Israel's strategic interests would do well to pack his bags and go home."

This historical account gives the reader special insights into the internal, as well as personal, workings of the Jewish state and is of particular value for understanding the nature and complexity of the U.S.-Israeli alliance.

Interesting about Yoel.

Your distinction reminds me of this quote from Shemot Rabbah:

משבחר הקדוש ברוך הוא בעולמו, קבע בו ראשי חדשים ושנים, וכשבחר ביעקב ובניו, קבע בו "ראש חדשים" של גאולה

my translation:

“Since this world found favor in the eyes of the Holy Blessed One, he established for it new moons to mark the firsts of months, and new years; and when Jacob and his children found favor in His eyes he established for it new epochs of redemption."

it goes on to enumerate these "new moons" of the redemption:

שבו נגאלו ישראל ממצרים,
ובו עתידין ליגאל, שנאמר (מיכה ז, טו) "כימי צאתך מארץ מצרים אראנו נפלאות",
ובו נולד יצחק,
ובו נעקד,
ובו קיבל יעקב את הברכות,
ובו רמז להם לישראל שהוא ראש להם לתשועה, שנאמר "ראשון הוא לכם לחדשי השנה".

-when Israel was redeemed from Egypt
-when they are to be redeemed in the future, as it says, I will show you wonders like in the days you left Egypt
- on the day Isaac was born
- on the day Isaac was bound
- on the day Jacob received the blessings
- on the day He hinted to Israel that it was the beginning of their salvation, "Rishon(First) of the months of the year it will be for you"

It's my opinion that there's a widespread and significant "disconnect" from reality which presents itself on this blog. I see it in the comments and views posted here by many regular readers. It is forgivable and understandable. Even so, I feel it needs to be corrected.
For example: The CFR was founded for the purpose of attracting the best and brightest American minds from industry, military, and government, and using their combined group influence and prestige to bring about the mission of the CFR, which is the total collapse of U.S. national sovereignty along with the collapse of all other nations' sovereignty, and their replacement with a one world global government. The CFR was formed in 1921 by elitist plutocrats. It is neither Constitutional nor officially a part of the Federal Government.

http://www.prolognet.qc.ca/clyde/cfr.html

I have always considered Netanyahu to be the CFR "planted puppet". Netanyahu actually does have backbone! He is willing to betray his own Jewish people and the rest of the world in order to implement and enforce the will of his fellow CFR members. What!?...You actually believed all this time that Bibi's been some kind of "LIKUDNIK RIGHT-WINGER"!? As the adage goes, "Don't believe everything you read in the papers!"
Another example: I just read in the comments "...in Russia the birthplace of terrorism." I understand the "intent" of the posted opinion, but in no way, shape, or form is Russia the "birthplace of terrorism". Terror as a tactic of politics and warfare date far back in man's history; long before the Vikings knew Slavs even existed. Untrue information shared and accepted, especially when laden with emotion, is every bit as dangerous as "disinformation" deliberately spread by our opponents, because without knowledge of the truth we Jews are easily duped and misled.
One last observation: Those who ridicule the Jews are often heard making snide comments about how 'Jews go off on another one of their "letter-writing campaigns" at the first hint of "anti-Semitism" in society - mailing letters to the editors, gathering up signatures for a Petition of Protest, and even going so far as to bring Abe Foxman or Elie Wiesel to town for a richly imbursed speech in favor of "Tolerance!" Enemies of the Jews love such things. This is because as long as the Jews write letters and Arutz 7 diatribes to "kvetch", they never actually take to the streets and do what sane people in civilized countries do, which is overthrow leaders who betray them.

With the death of Ariel Sharon drawing near, it is correct and ok to think that as the Sharon Valley sheds its thorns, only the roses and the white lilies will be around to blossom. This is the real meaning of Shir HaShirim 2. The husks of the Erev Rav, the thorns, were needed in some way to found the secular state. It formed a protection for the pure minority in its midst. The Erev Rav could tell the nations of the world "See how much we are like you??" Those husks are no longer needed now. So let it begin. I also pray that is signals the release of Yehonatan ben Malkah too.

Also, Anon., you are right about the CFR, but there was a miracle last year which limited what moves Bibi can make to destroy Yesha from within. There was an 8 Day Gaza War which ended basically with Bibi's surrender on the 8th Day of that war. Four days later was the Likud Primaries. Because Bibi's surrender was brought about by buckling under to the world's rules of engagement, there was a massive rebellion against Bibi's CFR think in the Likud Primaies. All of Bibi's leftists were replaced except for Tzachi HaNegbi who remained. If Bibi were to sign a stupid pieces treaty to buckle under to world domination now, over 20 to 25 members of Likud Beiteinu would tell him to take a hike. Sharon had 27 loyal lieutenants after the Likud referendum which created 13 rebels. Bibi would call himself lucky if 9 Likud Beiteinu MKs stuck with him. He would try to form new coalitions, but all the parties who would join would be larger than his support is!! He would be totally neutered. He knows the numbers. Lapid would have 19 seats. Labor would have 15 seats. And Likud Beiteinu would have 10 seats. We will know if he does this bizarre surrender which destroys his own party within the next two weeks.

i remember reading in the news that rav kadouri, before he passed away, spoke strongly against anyone speaking il of ariel sharon. he fought 4 national wars for israel. i wrote to one of my rabbis regarding ariel sharon, whom i have always looked up to as many others i know. yet some seemed to know what judgement Hashem is passing on him and or others. when the holy prophets and sages wrote no one knows HIs thoughts.

my rabbi replied:
Judging Ariel Sharon's ""guilt" " in this and all other matters is up to the Heavenly Court, not up to us.

Let me suggest my answer to the person's question (it's only a suggestion); perhaps the reason Mr Sharon has not yet died, is that his condition permits atonement in this world for whatever wrong he may have done, so that he will completely enjoy life in the world to come. Seen that way, this is an act of Divine mercy, because of Mr sharon's many merits in defending so many Jewish lives, as in Mr Katz's case. The fact that he was not religious was largely a matter of his upbringing, not so much a conscious choice.

Ezekiel 35, the Arab-Israeli War before Ezekiel 38?

Many end times experts believe the “Gog of Magog” invasion described in Ezekiel 38 and 39 is nearing the time of its prophetic fulfillment. Russia’s seemingly inseparable alliance with Iran, Turkey’s increased disdain toward Israel, and Libya’s uncertain future all suggest that the stage is rapidly setting for the fulfillment of the Magog invasion of Israel. All of these countries along with several more appear to be part of the Russian coalition that mounts this massive attack.

Putting the icing on the cake is the fact that Iran’s apocalyptic leadership wants to wipe Israel off the map and is on the verge of producing nuclear weapons. Certainly all the above, coupled with a host of other unmentioned indicators provides just cause to consider that the Ezekiel 38 prophecy could soon occur. But what about the war prophesied in Ezekiel 35? Is it conceivable that the war of Ezekiel 38 could precede the last days Arab – Israeli conflict predicted three chapters earlier?

Ezekiel 34:13, 36:24, 37:12, 38:8, and 39:27-28 all talk about the Jews being re-gathered out from the nations of the world back into the Holy Land of Israel. By the time one reads through Ezekiel 34-39 they are left with the indelible impression that in the last days, the Jews will be re-gathered into Israel. There is absolutely no way to draw any other conclusion!

Therefore, it stands to reason contextually that because Ezekiel 35 is huddled in the midst of the above chapters, it must have some association with the Jews, Israel, and the end times. Pivotally Ezekiel 35:5, which will be displayed below, informs that the Arabs possess an ancient hatred of the Jews that prompts Arabs to shed Jewish blood in the end times. Presuming mankind has been plunged into this final perilous period, a comprehensive study of Ezekiel 35 should underscore the present Arab-Israeli predicament in the Middle East.

1/10/2014 5:47 AM
Anonymous Meir M. said...

Hence, we may assume that the re-gathering of Jews into Israel occurs over time, and involves a two-step process. The inference from Ezekiel 35:1-4 is that at some point during the two-step restoration process of the nation Israel, Mount Seir does something to aggravate H'. Four times the prophet uses the word against, evidencing H' is provoked to anger to act against Mount Seir. Two times he uses the word desolate. Far beyond a divine disciplinary hand-slap, Mount Seir will experience desolation. The severity of punishment points out the seriousness of Mount Seir’s crime.

Mount Seir finds a definite historical connection with Esau and his Edomite descendants. However it also represents more Arabs than just the Edomites. Who exactly is the Mount Seir of Ezekiel 35? What are they guilty of? Lastly, at what point in the two-step regathering process does Mount Seir experience desolation?

Because you have had an ancient hatred, and have shed the blood of the children of Israel by the power of the sword at the time of their calamity, when their iniquity came to an end. (Ezekiel 35:5).

Fortunately, we don’t have to look farther than verse five to find out what Mount Seir is guilty of. Because of their historical hatred of the Jews, the Arabs spitefully shed Jewish blood. The spilt blood angers the Lord; not just any blood, but Jewish blood. Furthermore, Ezekiel declares the power of the sword is used to shed this blood. This means the Arabs’ war against Israel. This passage also identifies the timing of the Arab war. It occurs during the calamitous end times.

Therefore, as I live,” says the H', “I will prepare you for blood, and blood shall pursue you; [Arabs] since you have not hated [shedding Jewish] blood, therefore blood shall pursue you.” (Ezekiel 35:6).

Arab blood for Jewish blood is the remedial requirement determined by H'. This is the curse-for-curse-in-kind specification in Genesis 12:3. The Arabs severely curse Israel, and in turn will be similarly severely cursed. H' preferred the Arabs would have abandoned their ancient hatred of the Jews. The inhumane treatment of the Jews by the Nazis during the Holocaust should have prompted empathy from the Arabs, but verse six informs they still hated the Jewish bloodline.

Thus I will make Mount Seir most desolate, and cut off from it the one who leaves and the one who returns. And I will fill its mountains with the slain; on your hills and in your valleys and in all your ravines those who are slain by the sword shall fall. I will make you perpetually desolate, and your cities shall be uninhabited; then you shall know that I am H'. (Ezekiel 35:7-9).

I want to again post a series of dreams which are hopefully useful to someone.

Shortly after the ethnic cleansing of Jews from Aza I had a first dream about then sitting PM Sharon.
I was in a classic desert route 66 diner when suddenly bodyguard types entered and ushered the dining families out. When I was alone Sharon came from the kitchen area, we were separated by the diner bar. I began begging and begging him to find a teshuva after the deed he oversaw. He looked at me but never responded in any way. I became more shrill in my pleadings as the light faded away and he faded back from where we were standing and the dream ended.

Months later, in the Olmert administration I had another dream.
Bibi and I were jogging in the Gilo area, first I thought it a bit funny that he was wearing t-shirt and shorts but then I noticed he was wearing tzitzit and a small kippa and remembered(in the dream) that major positive changes had taken place and Yerushalim was now secure.

It made me a bit sad when I woke because a year or two previous I felt I was too tired to agree to an invitation to get up early for regularly bicycling around Karnei Shomron with Moshe Feglin but here I was in the dream jogging with Bibi.

Both of these followed a first dream shortly after the gush katif gerush where I heard a voice in shamiym calling the malach Meichaiel to descend. The simcha radiated by this messenger to do the ratzon of Hakadosh Baruch Hu was so strong and pure that it blotted out my own thoughts and for a bit I was sure I was Meichaiel descending through the clouds of glory. It lifted my hearts joy nearly to the point of pain waking me.

These all took place when I was a very different person studying torah day and night. Now I study for a parnasa and this kind of kedusha dream is far away.

I don't trust Bibi now but after the scary Sharon dream where he might even now be fading away to black without being able to make teshuva I sincerely hope that Bibi's teshuva dream comes true for all of our benefit.

I hope these are useful to someone though they could also be the stray bits of mind stuff digesting the news and study of the day.

Again Ezekiel repeats the sentiment of verse three: Mount Seir will be most desolate. The mountains, hills, valleys, and ravines will be filled with the slain and the cities will be abandoned. In the aftermath, the Arabs will realize that the Lord had His hand in the massive slayings. Ezekiel 35:3 declares the outstretched hand of H' causes the desolation, but here in verse eight we discover the H’s weapon of choice is the sword.

Ezekiel 25:14 may hold an important clue as to how the sword in the Lord’s outstretched hand represents the IDF executing judgment upon Edom:

“I will lay My vengeance on Edom by the hand of My people Israel [IDF] that they may do in Edom [Mount Seir] according to My anger and according to My fury; and they shall know My vengeance,” says H'. (Ezekiel 25:14).

This passage finds definite association with a military judgment upon the Edomites, who hailed from ancient Mount Seir. Esau’s Edomite descendants will be forced to recognize the Lord’s hand of judgment when the IDF takes vengeance against them. It is important to note that the Edomites are listed first within the Psalm 83 Arab confederacy, as the “tents of Edom.” Today the Edomites have ethnic representation within the Palestinians.

1/10/2014 10:59 AM
Anonymous Meir M. said...

It is additionally important to note that the massive slaying of Edomites described in Ezekiel 35:7-9 by the IDF has not occurred yet. After Ezekiel wrote, many Edomites were slaughtered by the Seleucid king Antigonus around 312 BC. However, this episode did not involve the IDF at the time, disqualifying it as a fulfillment of Ezekiel 25:14.

Subsequently, around 126 BC, the Jewish high priest John Hyrcanus fought and killed many Edomites. But, his IDF victory did not fill the mountains, hills, valleys, and ravines with the slain and cause the abandonment of the cities. To the contrary, Hyrcanus allowed the surviving Edomites, who were called Idumeans at the time, to remain and repopulate within their cities as long as they converted to Israel’s religion of Judaism. In addition, neither of the Antigonus or Hyrcanus victories occurred in the end time’s fulfillment of Ezekiel 35:5.

“‘Because you have said, “These two nations and these two countries shall be mine, and we will possess them,” although the LORD was there, therefore, as I live,’ says H', ‘I will do according to your anger and according to the envy which you showed in your hatred against them; and I will make Myself known among them when I judge you. Then you shall know that I am H'. I have heard all your blasphemies which you have spoken against the mountains of Israel, saying, “They are desolate; they are given to us to consume.” Thus with your mouth you have boasted against Me and multiplied your words against Me; I have heard them.’” (Ezekiel 35:10-13).

Ezekiel uses the word because three times in this chapter, and verse ten begins with the second usage. The first because dealt with the ancient hatred in verse five and the second now addresses the Arab motive. The Arabs seek to possess two nations and two countries. Because the Arabs harbor an ancient hatred, they shed Jewish blood. The reason they shed this blood is to destroy the Israelis and possess Israel.

Ezekiel 35:10 says, These two nations and these two countries shall be mine, and we will possess them. At the time Ezekiel wrote, approximately 2,600 years ago, Israel was a divided country. There was the northern kingdom, commonly referred to as Israel or Samaria, and a southern kingdom, called Judah. Prior to Ezekiel’s time, in 722 BC, the northern kingdom was conquered by the Assyrians, and subsequently in 586 BC, the Babylonians conquered Judah.

The Hebrew word for nations is goy, and for countries is eretz. Goy identifies Gentiles, nations, or peoples; whereas eretz deals more specifically with the earth and its lands, territories, or regions. Ezekiel is probably declaring the Arabs seek sovereignty over the Jewish people and their previously divided lands.

Being omniscient and omnipresent, H' possesses the unique “fly on the wall” advantage of sitting in on all confidential Arab meetings, past, present, and future. Ezekiel summarizes the Anti-Semitic gist of these meetings for us by revealing the Arabs declare blasphemies against the mountains of Israel. Ezekiel notates the Arabs are angry, envious, hateful, and boastful people in their hatred of the Jews and their G'd. They believe Israel’s desolation evidences Israel’s G'd is weak, and the land (mountains) of Israel belongs to the Arabs.

1/10/2014 11:05 AM
Anonymous Meir M. said...

Below are some specific Arab quotes taken from the Torah, regarded with destroying the Jews and possessing the land of Israel;

• “Because you have said, ‘These two nations and these two countries shall be mine, and we will possess them.’” (Ezekiel 35:10).

• “They [mountains of Israel] are desolate; they are given to us to consume.” (Ezekiel 35:12).

• “Aha! The ancient heights have become our possession!” (Ezekiel 36:2).

• “Come, and let us cut them off from being a nation, that the name of Israel may be remembered no more.” (Psalm 83:4).

• “Let us take for ourselves the pastures of G'd for a possession.” (Psalm 83:12).

Jordan, identified by the Psalm 83 members of Moab and Ammon, has also made troubling comments along these lines. Zephaniah 2:8 informs us of the following;

I [H'] have heard the reproach of Moab, and the insults of the people of Ammon, with which they have reproached My people, and made arrogant threats against their borders.

This disposition of Arab hatred and desire to dispossess Israel of their land was prophesied in Psalm 83. The Psalm warns that the Arabs will confederate, form a crafty plan, and attack Israel. Their mandate is to destroy the Jews and erase the name of Israel forever. Psalm 83:12 informs us the goal of the confederacy is possession of the land of Israel. They don’t want a two-state solution, wherein Jews and Arabs co-exist side-by-side in peace; rather, they want one more Arab State of Palestine. Since Ezekiel 35:5 suggests the Arab war occurs in the calamitous end times, it appears that it could occur in the near future.

“Thus says H': ‘The whole earth will rejoice when I make you desolate. As you rejoiced because the inheritance of the house of Israel was desolate, so I will do to you; you shall be desolate, O Mount Seir, as well as all of Edom—all of it! Then they shall know that I am H'.’” (Ezekiel 35:14-15).

These verses, like Ezekiel 35:6 above, come out of the Genesis 12:3 foreign policy. The Arabs rejoiced when the Jews dwelt outside of their homeland in the Diaspora and Israel lay desolate. In turn, mankind will rejoice at the conclusion of the Arab – Israeli conflict.

Conclusion
It appears as though Ezekiel 35 finds direct correlation with the war prophesied in Psalm 83. If so, Ezekiel 35 identifies the Arab countries that surround Israel today. They do not appear to be the same countries identified in the coalition described in Ezekiel 38. Therefore, Ezekiel seems to be describing two distinctly different end times wars. The fact that Ezekiel’s chapters 34-39 appear to read chronologically, suggests that the Arab war of Ezekiel 35 precedes the Gog of Magog invasion of Ezekiel 38 and 39.

Hence, let us be prepared. How do we however pass on this message to the leading segment of our beloved country, the State of Israel?

Gut Shabbos.

I was standing under a street light with Golda Meir when from around the corner out of the shadows on my right comes 6 men in business suits laboring under the weight of a massive bunch of grapes on two poles like the Spies. They turned Left onto the street and were passing in front of us when one of the men in the front stumbled and dropped his end of the pole and the grapes and staggered a few steps. He was drunk. Golda Meir then said very slowly and with much disdain, emphasizing every word "Where are all the men?"

And we all know that Amalek was just one of 13 principle descendants of Edom who were given the title Aluf (Chief or leader of thousands) in parshat VaYishlach. This would seem to indicate that the Western nations sending troops in our day to the Valley of Yehoshafat will be nations lead by or controlled by Amalek. Anyway Shabbat Shalom.

A Man is like a Tree in the Field. That is true for most men, but for Ariel Sharon it was quite different. He WAS the field, not the tree. He WAS that field on the Coastal Plain of Israel called The Sharon. On this blog we fondly call that field, the Left Coast, because of its tendency to give nourishment to left wing narischkeit. As Shir HaShirim states in 2:1-2, the Sharon Plain produces lilies and roses entrapped in beds of thorns. The left wing narischkeit to which Sharon became a prisoner to at the end of his conscious life outnumbers the pure roses and lilies, but The Sharon produces roses and lilies nonetheless. As a matter of fact, Ariel's wife was named Lily!! (I am assuming that the translation of the word Chavatzeleth is lily in Shir HaShirim 2). As long as Lily was alive, Ariel was safe on the Gesher Tzar meod (Very Narrow Bridge) that he built for IDF troops to cross the Suez Canal during the Yom Kippur War. Upon the time of Lily's death, Ariel joined in with the thorns. That part is the pity. For the rest of his life before Lily passed away, he smelled like a lily/ rose.

Now that the Sharon has died, the spiritual life of Israel can switch from the so called Merkaz, the Coastal Plain, to Yerushalayim. And now the rose amongst the thorns can rise. Amein. I believe that this is what Rav Kaduri foresaw would happen once Sharon passed away. It was supposed to happen in 5766 at the time of his stroke, but it was delayed for 8 years because of the behavior of some of us in 5765, during the year leading up to the Disengagement. That too is a pity.

Arik Sharon passed away on Shabbos which was also yud Shvat- the yahrzeit of the previous Lubavitcher Rebbe and the day the Rebbe became Rebbe, with all that entails. Clearly some level of forgiveness here, especially because someone who passed away on Shabbos goes straight to Gan Eden.

Ariel Sharon z"l was born on the 5th of Adar Rishon 5688. He passed away on the 10th of Shevat 5774. He was less than one month shy of his 86th birthday. As the post says:

Maybe by then we will take note of something taking place 5 times 86? It will be curious to see.

So here we go!..off to the races. Now the Ba'al Kerry has to come to Israel trying to impose something this week.

Today was also the Yahrzeit of Rav Yosef Yitzchak zt"l, the 6th Rebbe of Chabad... I am not going there. I am sure the Chabad websites are carrying that football.

In light of the passing of Ariel Sharon, z"l within his 86th year, I think this was interesting, besides whatever intention the gentleman actually had. Thanks, Boaz.

slight correction: In 1928 there was only one Adar. Hebcal.com for whatever reason does not show that on their date converter anymore. So Ariel Sharon was born on the 5th of Adar 5688 that year since Adar Rishon was just plain Adar that year. He still passed away within one month of his 86th birthday.

86 also showed up during the slavery in Mitzraim. According to the written text of the Torah and Rashi, 430 years elapsed from the Covenant Between the Parts with Avraham Avinu and Yetziat Mitzraim (The Exodus). The Covenant with Avraham took place five years before he left Charan for Eretz Yisrael and 30 years before the birth of Yitzchak. 430 is 86 x 5. Only in the last 86 year segment were we actually enslaved. In Sefer HaYashar we were enslaved at the beginning of a rule of a Pharaoh who reigned 93 or 94 years, and we were freed in the fourth year of his son who was a dwarf. One Pharaoh in the 6th Dynasty reigned 93 or 94 years. His name was Pepi II aka as Melol which was often pronounced by Egyptians as Meror. They were like the Japanese who pronounce ls as rs. See! there is maror. nice. According to this view in the 12th year of Melol's reign we were enslaved. We served him for 82 years and his son, The Dwarf, for 4 years for a total of 86 years. For 4 x 86 years we were not enslaved, starting from the original year of the Covenant Between the Parts. Only in the last 86 years were we enslaved with bitter bondage, as Chuck Heston would put it. Hey, that is worth four cups of wine, isn't it? especially since the gematriah of kos is also 86!

It is worth noting that Egyptologists now list Pepi II as Pepi I's grandson. And these same Egyptologists call Pepi I Merere or Melele, not Pepi II whom they call Neferkare. Pepi I is supposedly Pepi II's grandfather. It should also be noted that Egyptology is like the shifting sand. Names and lengths of reign and who was the father and mother and who were co-regents keep shifting. I will ask Jim Long who wrote some of the definitive material connecting Sefer haYashar to the historical record.

I just want to say - whatever Ariel Sharon did toward the end of his life...he was still a hero, a protector of our people. The Lubavitcher Rebbe called IDF soldiers tzaddikim, kama v kama Arik Sharon who devoted his entire life to klal yisroel. He made a huge mistake at the end and spent eight terrible years locked in a coma, atoning for it.
The righteous are punished in this world, the wicked prosper so they can be fully punished when they die. But the righteous suffer to atone for their misdeeds.
I am confident that Ariel Sharon, may his soul rest in peace - atoned for his terrible sin with Gush Katif and has received his olam haba for his righteous service to his people.
We should all be silent concerning Ariel Sharon - this is what R' Kaduri said. Now even more so that he has passed on from this world - it is terrible to speak ill of the dead. And who are we to judge a hero like Sharon- we cannot fathom why he did what he did - no more then we would try to understand Shaul Hamelech's sin or Bar Kochba's ect.
Who are we to judge Giants?

Yes, his coma for the last eight years was a kaparah for the devastation wrought because of the Disengagement. We can say that without denigrating the rest of what Ariel Sharon accomplished during his life before he announced his Disengagement plan. It seems that the wife that was by his side helped to make the man great, a towering strength. One can easily say that without Sharon, the Egyptian theater of war during the Yom Kippur War would have been lost. With G-d's help he turned around what was an unmitigated disaster. The Egyptian Army at the end of that war was trapped in the Sinai in large part because of his brilliant strategy where he cut off the Army in the Sinai.

It was not my intent to 'speak ill' of Arik Sharon. The din (as Dov points out in the Rambam on 4x and 5x post) was on Mitzrayim, not on Klal Yisrael. World Public Opinion has definitely not been the source of their bracha for protection since Oslo began. They need to be shown that. In fact i even feel that Sharon paid the price for all of us, because we, no matter how much we fought it individually, klal Yisrael herself had to atone for the sin of Gush Katif. So the number 8 being completion, I took it as OUR sin is now atoned for, it's completed, and judgement can proceed against the nations.

I believe that modern Avodah Zarah is arrogance towards the Creator, H'. We often say: "It is my strength and the force of my hand that accomplishes." We believe that it is our "advanced" knowledge/wizdom expressed in science and technology that brings us success and we tend to forget (or supress) the real source of doing and of success, HB"H. We tend to believe we are in control but H' will again, as He did in Egypt, remind us who is in control, who is the ruler and kind of the world. We may observe this unfolding right now, in our time.

Says Zechariah 4:

“This is the message from the Lord to Zerubbabel: ‘Your help will not come from your own strength and power. No, your help will come from my Spirit.’ This is what the Lord All-Powerful says.

Sharon "the bulldozer" and "builder" was likely a gilgul of Herod. There are questions about his mother's conversion and whether he himself was a kosher Jew or a goy.

Blogger Dov Bar-Leib said...

Correct Anon. He was likely the gilgul of Herod because the Radak on Zecharia 11 and 13 calls Herod the archetype of the Foolish Shepherd. Yet, Sharon ended up playing the role of Shimshon who failed in Gaza. The difference of course being that Shimshon was allowed to ultimately succeed in Gaza as his last dying act. And Shimshon was in the Dan region around Beit Shemesh while Sharon was in the Sharon plain north of Tel Aviv. And yes, his mother was a convert, but when Israel became a Medinah, the Rabbanut never recognized that she was a Jew on her Teudat Zehut. That is more than curious. This is only worth mentioning because he was PM of our nation of Jews.

Yet, he was a great General who was graced by G-d to save Israel during the Yom Kippur War. And even taking into account what he destroyed in Gaza and the Northern Shomron, most of his great building projects remain, perhaps because his strokes prevented him from destroying even more.

That is saying a lot for flesh and blood. He also built far more than he destroyed...including my house in Kochav Ya'akov. He never got around to destroying this one. Why did HaShem give him zechut to physically build up Eretz Yisrael? I will leave that question for us to think about on our own.

They are going to hate it, what comes next because it will be good for those of us who are faithful to our G-d.

In America now, it is the IN thing to demonize parents who ask their child's psychiatrist to help him/ her overcome his/her homosexual tendencies. Parents are being horribly stigmatized for this. It is only a matter of time before child welfare reshayim start legally trying to take away kids from parents who are "abusing" their children in this way. Evil is good, and the sane need to be locked up behind bars so that the reshayim can run amok in the world. Can I take solace in the fact that it is the leftwing Jews who made my childhood difficult as peers who are now destroying the world?? Ruth Baglady (Buzzi) Ginsburgh takes her Saturday's off to be the Justice of the Peace at homosexual marriages. And here we are so so close to the Redemption from this world gone mad. Stay strong.

I bring this up because just today, I spoke with someone who mentioned that the Rebbe (Lubavitcher),z't'l, warned Sharon to stick to being a General and not think of political office. The advice of Tzadikim is holy! The corrupt politics (and not only in Israel) is even dirtier than we can imagine. The new agenda is to force mankind to believe 'good' is evil and 'evil is good. This proves how Moshiach must come very soon, for the sake of humanity which is in great jeopardy.

any decree that is harmful to israel can be rescinded by tefillah, teshuvah and tzedekkah.
Hashem could have stopped the evacuation, but He did not. Sharon did say and this was agreed with by usa, that the moment an attack is launched from gaza he would re take it, and he definitely would have so if the Hand of Hashem did not stop him. but sharon proved his point. israel does not have a peace partner. what did those after him do about it??
the heartbreaking part was the breaking down of homes, yeshivas, schools etc. and with nothing prepared for those who lost their homes, businesses etc. i understand that. even we undergo similar tragedies.
instead of looking at sharon, we have to look within each of us, and ask why it took place. to
the non jews of non yshmael affiliation he was a hero and will always remain so. he touched the hearts and souls of non jews all over the world, with a courage that surpassed all. where ever there were oppressed people from the hands of ysml, he was an icon there.
when he stood up to ysml, we felt he was standing up for us.

As for the argument that Sharon's mother was not Jewish there are actually varying opinions which I came across whil doing an afternoon hevrusa on halachic issues in Rut.
Most important is that a woman who has been judged as converted by three jews will convert the first time she dips.
Sources fail me now, but the gemeara discusses a man who converted by beis din and (we assume been maled) but not toveled. He would be jewish the first time he dipped for say a nocturnal emission.
It seems that intention to be tovled in a mikveh for any reason is enough, not sure if incidental immersion when swimming in the yam would be though.
It was never clear to me the actual function of the beis din is in conversion other than they make the conversion. Normally a beis din can take or transfer money and property or in earlier times rule a criminal punishment from the available death, slavery, or beating(also run to ir meklat); none of these mechanisms seem to be in play.
We are macpid now but it seems that most important is that the convert intend to join the Jewish people and then joins.
The care we take to not accept people who converted improperly or who flake off may mean rejecting actual converts to prevent the not fully committed from joining the community and dragging us down as we did when the erev rav were accepted and a insincere percentage caused us great trouble int he midbar.
While we have both derisa and derabanan mechanisms that we have worked with for many years we have little idea in our days how the mechanics of esoteric concepts like conversion work in shemym.
Needless to say I pray that eight years of coma was a kepara for the sins we perceive to have been comitted, and I cant believe that a person with a story like Sharon was not a yid.

Wow, the last time that Noga (Venus) went dark was during the Venus (Noga) Transit on June 6th, 2012. I just did the calculation. The next time that Noga was in alignment with the earth and the sun was THIS PAST SHABBAT! Klipah Noga is now officially DEAD, one year 219 days after the Venus Transit. This is incredible. I have to do this calculation as part of a post.

Blogger Dov Bar-Leib said...

Wow, here it is. Noga went dark for the first time since the Noga Transit on the day that Sharon died.

Klipah Noga Goes Dark, and then Sharon Died.

The calculation is pretty simple taking into account that the period of revolution for Venus around the sun is 224.7 days and assuming that Venus then makes one more revolution than the earth does in the interim period of time.

T = time between conjunctions = 224.7 (2 + x) = 365.25 (1 + x)

x = the fraction of a revolution around the sun until both the earth and Venus are in alignment again. Solve for x, and then solve for T.

x = .5987
T = 1 earth year + 218.68 days.

219 days from June 6th, 2012, the date of the Venus Transit, was THIS PAST SHABBAT, Jan. 11th, 2014 when Sharon died.

Let's not forget that Sharon, due to his subordination and bulldozer attitude, made many moves with unsupported infantry units in the Yom Kippur war, leading to hundreds of our soldiers losing their lives unnecessarily. There was pressure to dismiss him from the army and hold him accountable for these very arrogant, disastrous actions. Generally, the punishment for subordination is very severe.

I remember the funerals of some of those soldiers, and the anger of those that survived over Sharon's moves, as if it was yesterday.

Let's be careful before we make blanket statements about our "heroes" (this is obviously in addition to the "disengagement" from Gaza and other debacles).

A similar "hero" people should learn more about is the real "Herzl" - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gmq3LnG9ULM.

Even if he wrote the name Yehoshua on a piece of paper and claimed that this would be he name of bed David, there are tens of thousands of Yehoshua's in Israel today. The name is as common as John Smith. This is all so wicked and ridiculous. Secondly, Rav Kaduri met with this Yehoshua apparently. It was NOT a spiritual vision. The man who showed up at his office at Yeshivat Nachalat Yitzchak was flesh and blood. Sorry this all makes me pop a vessel.

Here is my reference to this on my blog when Rav Kaduri passed away.

To Anonymous, 1/13/14 @6:15 pm. Believe that conversions must be accepted only after the most stringent laws are used. Conversions are an extremely serious matter and that is why there are not that many righteous converts (true gerei tzedek). The episode of the erev rav is a thorn in our sides to this day. If the Rabbis are adamant about the sincerity of the conversions, I completely agree. If a potential convert comes three times after being pushed away but is adamant in his sincerity on taking on the laws of Moshe and goes through all the proper rituals, etc, then he/she is considered a righteous convert and is beloved by the Creator even moreso than the born Jew. That is why it is imperative that it must be done under scrupulous supervision by righteous Rabbis. There has been an upsurge of conversions, as many who do have Jewish neshamas are feeling the push to convert because we are in the era before the coming of Moshiach where there are conversions which still need to take place, but it must be done with great concern. Because of the mass conversions which have been done in Israel of late, there is great apprehension on the purity of these conversions; as a convert should only be an individual who is utterly sincere. Many conversions are surely not kosher. After Moshiach, no more conversions.

Also, in regard to the utter distortion and nonsense of Rav Kaduri, ztl, accepting, G-D forbid, their avodah zorah, is utter blasphemy. It seems history is repeating itself, going back 2000 years, when this avodah zorah started by unscrupulous people. To stain Rav Kaduri's name in such a way, is a chilul.

Three Palestinian noes for peace deal

DEBKAfile January 14, 2014, 10:36 AM (IST)

The Palestinians stand by their refusal to recognize Israel as a Jewish state, their opposition to a united Jerusalem, and uncompromising demand for the restoration of Palestinian refugees to Israeli soil. These key obstacles to a peace accord with Israel were endorsed by Arab foreign ministers when they met in Paris Monday, according to Palestinian foreign Minister Riyad al-Maliki. This decision came after US Secretary of State John Kerry met them in Paris and requested their cooperation for bringing the Palestinians round to more amenable positions in the talks he instigated with Israel.

Livni Defends Kerry, Negotiations

Justice Minister Tzipi Livni, who is leading Israel's negotiations with the Palestinian Authority, responded to a report on the skepticism of Defense Minister Moshe Ya'alon, Tuesday, by saying, "Relations with the United States are our biggest strategic asset and vital to Israel's security.

Responding to Ya'alon's comments on Secretary of State John Kerry of the United States, Livni continued, "Secretary of State Kerry is working to end the conflict between us and the Palestinians from a deep understanding that it is in Israel's interest and from a commitment to Israel's future." She added, "The negotiations are being handled so that Israel's interests are protected, first and foremost security." She also said, "It's possible to be against the negotiations on their merits and in a responsible way, and not lash out and destroy the relationship with our best friend [the US -ed]."

EU conceals nuclear implementation agreement with Iran
DEBKAfile January 14, 2014, 1:49 PM (IST)

The text of an agreement reached Sunday to implement the interim nuclear deal with Iran is not available to the public because the European Union is not releasing it, the White House says. Asked to explain why this is so, the EU foreign policy spokesman Michael Mann said that he will “have to ask about that.” US failure to keep Israel abreast of its nuclear diplomacy with Iran is covered in a DEBKAfile Exclusive Tuesday.
